Futurama…coming to Comedy Central!!!

From the posts I just read on I Watch Stuff and Geekologie (sister sites) it seems that Comedy Central is going feature a slew of 26 NEW Futurama episodes:
“When the series returns with original episodes in 2010, it will be seven years after the show’s last original episode aired on Fox. That’s a much longer hiatus than the three years Family Guy spent on the bench before being summoned back by Fox.
All key voice cast members are expected to return for the new episodes, along with the series’ core writing team.”
After hearing this, I have to say I’m very excited. Little side note here, I’d like to go on record by saying that I never really go into Futurama when it was on the air. Although I gave it a shot it just never took with me. Now fast forward to about 5 years ago when Futurama and Family Guy were on back to back on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. I would sit through an episode or two of Futurama just so I wouldn’t miss Family Guy and after about 8 episodes, I really started to get the humor and liked Futurama. True it is quite a departure from the Simpsons (hence my apprehension) but the show is just a comic gold mine. Sly jokes, cyclical humor, quasi sophisticated subject matter and sar-casam!!
For true fans of the series I understand how its initial cancelling must have felt (having gone through the same things with Family Guy), but just like other instances in recent memory (but none I can recall actually), fan-backing can literally move mountains. With the releases of some funny Futurama DVD movies and the announcement of these “new episodes”, it’ll be great to see the gang at Planet Express starting to enjoy a return to somekind of syndication. “Good News Everyone” indeed!!!
