Actor Suraj Sharma Shares His Experiences Working On Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi'

For those who don’t know much about the upcoming Ang Lee film Life of Pi (or the Yann Martel novel that inspired it), it’s the kind of theater going experience that words just can’t describe. Sure there’s a synopsis, and that’s what the film is about. But what the film is…that’s something else entirely and left entirely up to the viewer to decide. Last week this one of a kind film was opened the New York Film Festival and first time actor Suraj Sharma (who gives an truly amazing and riveting performance) spoke at the Q&A following the premier.

Here’s what he had to say about his experience and journey making this one of a kind film. Enjoy…

Like looking at a picture of the Grand Canyon and then seeing it in person, the trailers just can’t replicate the massive scale of the story or do the film justice. Honestly, having recently seen it at a Press event, I think that this is the kind of film that will continue to help change cinema forever. Plus the 3D is gorgeous and so entirely immersive it’s like nothing you’ve seen before (thank you Arri Alexa and PACE Fusion 3-D). Further, if this is what filmmakers, granted well-financed filmmakers, are able to share with the world then there’s no limits as to what the future holds. But enough soap-box preaching, you’ll see what I mean soon enough. For now feast your eyes on the stunning images below…

Directed by Ang Lee, who is no stranger to visual marvels, Life of Pi was originally scheduled for release on December 21, 2012 but (most likely to stay clear of The Hobbit and Django Unchained) it was pushed up a full month to November 21. That’s good news for film fans. Consider it an early Christmas present. Films like this don’t come a long very often and as such, Life of Pi is The Haley’s Comet of cinema. Make sure you do whatever it takes to see this glorious film when it hits theaters…come to think of it, buying your tickets now wouldn’t be a bad idea either. You’ll be glad you did.
