Full List of Nominations for The 67th Annual BAFTA Awards

BAFTA 2014 HeaderThe BAFTAs, better known as the Oscars before the Oscars, take place on Sunday February 16th at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. The very UK-centric awards ceremony has been expanding over the years to recognize talent from across the pond which makes it a slightly better preview of the Academy Awards than the Golden Globes. But it’s award season and sometimes you just never know what surprises (and snubs) will make waves this time of year.

To no one’s surprise, the really critically and commercially lauded films like Gravity, 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle lead the pack (receiving 11, 12 and 10 nominations respectively). Captain Phillips has nine nominations, Saving Mr. Banks and, surprisingly, the Steven Soderberg HBO movie Behind the Candelabra (starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon) are each nominated five times. Rounding out the multiple award nominees Philomena, Rush and The Wolf of Wall Street have four nominations. Blue Jasmine, The Great Gatsby,Inside Llewyn Davis and Nebraska have each been nominated three times. The Act of Killing, The Butler and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug have two nominations apiece.

Alfonso Cuarón’s space fiacso film Gravity is nominated in the following categories: Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Director, Original Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design,Sound and Special Visual Effects. Sandra Bullock is nominated for Leading Actress.

12 Years a Slave is nominated for Best Film, Director for Steve McQueen, Adapted Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Editing and Production Design. Chiwetel Ejiofor is nominated for Leading Actor. Michael Fassbender is nominated for Supporting Actor and Lupita Nyong’o is nominated for Supporting Actress.

American Hustle receives nominations for Best Film, Director for David O. Russell, Original Screenplay, Production Design, Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. Christian Bale is nominated forLeading Actor and Amy Adams is nominated for Leading Actress, whilst Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are nominated for Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress.

Captain Phillips is nominated in the following categories: Best Film, Director for Paul Greengrass, Adapted Screenplay, Original Music, Cinematography, Editing and Sound. Tom Hanks is nominated for Leading Actor and Barkhad Abdi is nominated for Supporting Actor.

Philomena completes the Best Film line-up, with three further nominations in Outstanding British Film, Adapted Screenplay and Leading Actress for Judi Dench. Behind the Candelabra is nominated in Adapted Screenplay, Production Design, Costume Design and Make Up & Hair. Matt Damon is nominated for Supporting Actor but somehow Douglas is NOT nominated – admittedly the best actor category is a very crowded field this year.

Saving Mr. Banks receives nominations for Outstanding British Film, Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, Original Music and Costume Design. Emma Thompson is nominated forLeading Actress.
