In our latest foray into social distancing, we joined our good friend Bryan Kluger (of BoomStickComics) again on his podcast and spoke with the grooviest of music supervisors operating out of Toronto. David Hayman and Cody Partridge work at Supergroup Sonic Branding Co. they explained their work and what goes into getting music approved for use in film and TV.
David is Creative Director & Lead Music Supervisor. And Cody is the crusher of dreams…I mean, he runs interference to get rights to clear the music. He also runs point one of our very favorite TV shows.
These sonic sherpas guide clients through the process and select some fantastic songs that really get to the emotional core of the project. Sometimes they find the songs the director wants, other times they make suggestions that really capture the tone of the narrative.
There are many paths to get to their goal, but the end result – if they’re lucky – is that they get to work with some great voices and introduce the viewer to music they’ve probably never heard before.
We got to talk to them about Letterkenny which is one of our favorite shows. It’s because of David, Cody and Scotty Taylor‘s work that we’re now fans of Hadouken!, Death From Above, and Manics to name just a few.
Their team are a group of vastly experienced and award-winning, Music Supervisors, Song Curators and Music Industry Insiders, who have experience in advertising, film, television, VR and Integrated Branded Content Global Advertising Campaigns.
Click over to their page at WEARETHESUPERGROUP.COM. Get to know their work and they will continue to expand your sonic palette. And for you fans of Letterkenny, Scotty just produced a Hip Hop Comedy track for the upcoming season. Sounds wondrous. As always, there’s tons of good stuff coming out of the mysterious land of Toronto, Canada.
