Ohhh, Look…New Stills From 'The World's End' and 'Jack Ryan'

This time of year we film fans usually do three things without fail – shake off the Winter cold, brave the hit and miss “dump” titles from all the major studios, and get ready for the most anticipated titles in the coming months. Well you’re on your own with the first two but we can help you out with the latter. We’ve already got delightful chills and smiles thanks to the impressive looking stills from Man of Steel, Kick-Ass 2 and The Wolverine but now here’s just a little more eye candy.

First up is The World’s End, which stars co-writer and director Edgar Wright’ s usual suspects Simon Pegg,  Nick Frost and Martin Freeman who are joined Paddy ConsidineEddie Marsan and Rosamund Pike. The film is about five friends who reunite in an attempt to top their epic pub crawl from 20 years earlier unwittingly become humankind’s only hope for survival.

In a recent interview with Pegg, he revealed “the film’s jaundiced hero, instigator of a pub-based reunion for his old muckers, raises a pint with said pals before the neutrin-ales start mutating.” So is that what kick starts the end of the world…or World’s End? Sounds odd but then again that’s Wright’s stock in trade right? There’s nothing the man has put his name to that we didn’t just love so we’re game for this. Sign us up!

The World's End_-Map

In the last photo Pegg holds a map that relates to the pub-crawl based story. Pegg notes, “That’s his map of the pubs in Newton Haven, which he had as a teenager. You can see on the map that nine pubs are crossed out because when they were teenagers they only got through nine of the 12 pubs. And he’s kept that map.”

Next up, is Paramount and Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan, the main character in a series of very popular Tom Clancy novels. How popular? Well they’ve made 4 films so far and if I learned anything in school, this makes number 5. Going the prequel route, Jack Ryan, as a young covert CIA analyst, uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack.

Chris Pine takes the torch from other Ryan alums Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. But while Pine is a capable and confident leading actor, we’re more jazzed about Kevin Costner playing the agent who trains Ryan. Costner, one of G-S-T’s favorite actors, is having one heck of a renaissance with Hatfields & McCoys, Man of Steel et al, to say nothing of the success with his country band Modern West. Here are the newest stills from Branagh’s film which is currently filming.

Edgar Wright will be bringing The World’s End to theaters this Fall on Ocotber 31st and Kenneth Branagh will unveil Jack Ryan this Winter on December 25th, 2013. Two very different films but very highly anticipated ones as well. What are you most excited to see??
