Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Monsters University' – UPDATED

Remember that charming little animated film from Pete Docter all the way back in 2001? You know, the one with the adorable characters hiding in closets to scare kids? Yeah, thought that might ring a bell.

Well, for those of you who fell in love with the likes of Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan (“Sulley” for short) Pixar’s next film will take us back to the duo’s college days before they were best friends. So enjoy this glimpse into how these two suffered some knocks (well mostly Mike) became the best of pals with the first teaser trailer to the Monsters, Inc. prequel Monsters University

By the way, in a crafty bit of advertising, the video above is one of the four teasers released, each with different jokes. Click the ones below to see/hear the rest…

When we heard about this last year, we honestly went through the roof. Not only are we getting more of Mike and Sulley but by NOT going the true sequel route is honestly the way to go. Why? Well as you might recall, that final scene in Monsters, Inc. is probably one of the finest, classiest, take your pick of praise-worthy superlatives, way to end any film. So leaving it well alone is just a brilliant move…would you expect any less from Pixar? But as far as continuity/in-jokes to the original (read: their eventual employment with Monsters Incorporated), it might be nice to see a professor working on harnessing laughter and then find later he’s thrown out and considered a loon.

Monsters University is directed by Dan Scanlon and stars Billy Crystal and John Goodman who are returning to voice their beloved characters. Disney will be releasing Pixar’s delightful looking prequel next Spring on June 21, 2013 in 3D. Anyone excited yet??

I don’t know that I want to go back to the Monster’s, Inc. world just yet– I’m wary of Pixar falling into a habit of prequelizing and sequelizing its brands– but I also don’t mind the idea of Goodman and Crystal reteaming with one another. Too soon or not, we’re getting this film, so I think I’ll just choose to be on-board.

Sometimes, even if the story is lacking, it’s just good to see actors reprise their characters…though I’m betting this’ll be quite enjoyable in the end.
