    G-S-T Review…G.I. JOE: Retaliation

We at GoSeeTalk are but some of the few out there who really enjoyed Stephen Sommers’ G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra (read our review from way back); even if it was a mess it was still a lot of fun. In this highly anticipated follow up Jon M. Chu, known for his strong visual style and over-the-top action, ups the ante and makes G.I. JOE: Retaliation bigger and a little more believable than its comic origins. The sequel (penned by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick) embraces the JOE namesake yet only finds a few characters/plotlines returning from Sommers’ popcorn fueled romp. Retaliation embodies some of the more cartoon elements but goes about telling its story…

G-S-T Review…A Good Day To Die Hard

Confidence in critiquing a film is often fleeting. You feel inspired to write about certain points, but are unclear of the intangible things that make a film ultimately enjoyable or flat. That’s part of the process of reviewing and being able to adequately touch on those aspects. A Good Day to Die Hard makes it easy to pick apart. The villains are flat and ultimately unworthy. The highlight of the film, a car chase showcasing an enormous military vehicle and various others through crowded Russian streets, utilizes seemingly endless camera angles to thoroughly confuse you before settling into a zany rhythm five minutes later. We are provided action sequence after action sequence, as both star Bruce Willis…

    Sweet Trailer…'G.I. Joe Retailiation'

Channing, Channing, Channing…just look at all the trouble you’ve caused. Sure you can dance, sure you can fight, sure you can play an emotional sap when the script calls for it. But this, this is something else. Your presence and influence on Hollywood (specifically box office draw/return) exceeded anything anyone could have expected. So much so that you not being in a movie can cause the entire stuido to tap the brakes just so you could be in the movie. In case I’m not making any sense, I’ll go back a bit. Roughly one month before the Summer release of G.I. Joe Retaliation (and with ad campaigns in full swing and toys heading to store shelves)…

Sweet Trailer…'A Good Day To Die Hard'

There is no such thing as having too many Bruce Willis action movies. Admit it, the world is better place because of it. In the next installment of the long running Die Hard series, we again find John McClane running and gunning but doing it all with a trademark wink, a smile and an iconic catch phrase. Last time we looked in on the McClanes we saw Mary Elizabeth Winstead introduced as the grown up Lucy McClane. Now this film, the fifth, puts the focus on his son Jack (played by Jai Courtney) and as you expect, explosions ensue. Enjoy the first theatrical trailer for A Good Day To Die…

The Gun in Your Hand: Looper's Cycles of Violence

(Foreword: Looper began its theatrical run last Friday, and at this point I presume most of you have seen it or are going to see it. That said, if you have not seen the film, steer clear of this essay; it is spoiler-heavy by the third paragraph. I also don’t rehash plot points in detail. Read at your own risk if you want to see the film blind.) Like many other films of its kind, Rian Johnson’s Looper is a time travel yarn that isn’t actually at all about time travel. One might argue that Johnson’s just letting himself off the hook by leaving the mechanics of such technology go unexplained, but truthfully the decision…
