Interview…Famke Janssen on the Emotional Connection to Character in ‘Asher’

Famke Janssen is an actor we’ve followed for years after making her mark on the Bond and X-Men franchises. We were fortunate enough to speak with her some years back at the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival where she screened her directorial debut, Bringing Up Bobby (click these links to check out our written and video interviews). Janssen’s original passion has and continues to be writing, but she’s kept very busy with acting. These days, there’s no sign of things slowing down.  This year, she stars alongside Ron Perlman in the Michael Caton-Jones-directed crime drama, Asher. The film tells the story of an aging hitman whose last job goes sideways, forcing him…

    G-S-T Review…The Wolverine

The latest Wolverine adventure, if nothing else, is a return to form. Instead of holding the clawed mutant back, director James Mangold truly unleashes the beast within. We find Logan beaten and withered from his travels and in hiding from his snarling ways. When he finds something to fight for, though, he truly lets it out unlike we’ve seen before. The other nice thing in this adventure is that a change of setting is fully embraced. Fans of the character from the comics will know Frank Miller’s influential comic storyline of Logan’s travels to Japan. The film plays to a lot of the same beats, though it has some clever…

    G-S-T Review…Taken 2

Going into a Luc Besson film (whether he produced it, directed it, or in this case penned it) you’ll likely find two distinct elements: kick ass action and memorable/likable characters. It’s easily evidenced looking back at his earlier works like The Fifth Element, Leon, Wasabi, The Transporter and Taken. But after a surprise hit actioner like Pierre Morel’s Taken, to try and top that, even with Besson on board, Olivier Megaton has a tough act to follow. Yet all the hope in the world couldn’t make this anticipated follow up/supposedly white hot revenge thriller more than a hollow luke warm sequel. It’s like Bryan Mills or rather Liam Neeson is there in spirit but the flesh is weak…and so’s…

In this precarious situation, we consult the The CineMagic 8-Ball (TM) to help us see through the nebulous marketing haze. G-S-T Top 10 – Movies Off The Beaten Path…Round 3

Going just a bit deeper in to my movie memory and scanning GoSeeTalk’s “Sacred Shelves” and Netflix Instant for some recommendations I’ve lined up 10 more films you may have overlooked. Keep in mind that these aren’t snubbed Oscar winners, but they all have something we think makes them worth watching at least once. Hope you find a few unexpected winners in this batch. Continuing the series, I give you the 3rd Round of “Movies Off the Beaten Path“… —————————————————————————————————————————————– The Way of the Gun – More like the under-appreciated little brother of the The Usual Suspects, this Christopher McQuarrie penned film should derive more attention than it gets. Gun was highly overlooked probably because…

    Sweet Trailer…Taken 2

No not Tekken 2, but containing equal amounts of ass-whooping, this is Taken 2, the sequel to Pierre Morel’s surprise/smash 2008 hit. Liam Neeson is back and this time even more lethal and intense than before. Since rescuing his daughter in the first film it looks as if he’s also managed to wrangle his x-wife away from her new super-rich husband. I guess that’s another of his very particular set of skills; skills [he’s] have acquired over a very long career. Enough talk, behold the full domestic trailer for Taken 2. While the first film ended in such a way you’d think it was impossible to continue the story, like we’re about to…

[DIFF Video Interview]…’Bringing Up Bobby’ Writer/Director Famke Janssen

She’s been a model, a Bond girl, a Rounder and an X-Men alum…now Famke Janssen she can add writer, director and producer to her resume. While we know her for her work in front of the camera, Famke Janssen has always had a desire to work behind it as writing has been a long time passion of hers. Previously I had an immensely insightful 45 minute phone conversation about Bringing Up Bobby, but the journey to bring her film to life was so interesting I just had to talk to her again. Here’s the interview with Famke Janssen who was in town for the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival promoting her directorial…
