    G-S-T Review…How To Train Your Dragon 2

Four years doesn’t seem like that long ago but DreamWorks Animation has grown by leaps and bounds since their massive 2010 hit and this sequel is an improvement in every sense of the word. How to Train Your Dragon 2 soars past Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders’ film with a second installment that features exquisite animation and an even more exciting and adventurous story – one that colorfully expands on the endearing elements that made the first film such a wild success. In this sequel we get to see Hiccup, Toothless, and the entire village of Berk shown thriving in their dragon-friendly utopia. The Vikings have not only come to…

Sweet Trailer…’How To Train Your Dragon 2′

One of the biggest (and unexpected) hits in the DreamWorks Animation catalog is their medieval adventure story How To Train Your Dragon. Delightful, fanciful, funny and heartwarming that story, about a boy and his dragon, just keeps giving and giving and now, best of all, DreamWorks Animation is giving us a sequel. The trailer for this follow-up to the 2010 film just hit and it looks like more high-flying fun. It features the return of the original cast as well as that patented DreamWorks charm. Enjoy! It’s been five years since Hiccup and Toothless successfully united dragons and vikings on the island of Berk. While Astrid, Snoutlout and the rest…

    G-S-T Review…Olympus Has Fallen

Time has not been kind to Antoine Fuqua. Over a decade ago, he became an Oscar-caliber filmmaker (for whatever that label is worth) after Training Day vaulted him into mainstream prominence on the back of its gritty violence, no-nonsense artistry, and mesmerizing performances; in between then and now he’s output nothing but a handful of mild hits (Brooklyn’s Finest) and flops both small (Shooter) and large (King Arthur). Is his fall from grace an example of success eating a director alive? Was Training Day just an anomaly in an otherwise middling filmography? Giving credit where it’s due, Fuqua’s descent isn’t really due to lack of trying, but the trajectory of his career…

    Sweet Trailer…'Olympus Has Fallen'

Gerard Butler stars in Antonie Fuqua‘s throw-back themed actioner Olympus Has Fallen. In the film, the White House (codeword: Olympus) has been overrun by terrorists and only one man can save the day. Disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning (Butler) finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of the attack. Using his inside knowledge, Banning works with national security to rescue the President (Aaron Eckhart) from his kidnappers. Total Film posted the exclusive trailer, which is essentially a UK TV spot, and we also found a sweet looking quad poster which is at the bottom of the post. Have a look and enjoy! Directed by Antonie Fuqua, this Die Hard meets Air Force One–styled shoot em…

G-S-T Trailer Round-Up: Upside Dunst, Inside Oscar Isaac, Imperiled Capitals and Brit Marling Just Because We Love Her So

If you’ve had a rough week and you feel like you’re free-floating through life, let me pull you back down to Earth with a brand-new collection of freshly-released trailers– starting with Upside Down, a movie which I’m equally resistant to on intellectual and gastrointestinal grounds. Seriously, watch this clip and tell me it didn’t make you at least a little queasy; then consider that you watched it on your computer or random mobile device instead of a multiplex screen. Maybe the physical space of the theater will acclimate me to the topsy turviness inherent in the film’s conceit, or maybe I’ll throw up all over myself. The cogent point here is…

    G-S-T Review…Playing for Keeps

Technology is evolving at such an exponential rate that movies are now made in a matter of weeks, rather than months.  Obviously there are some exceptions like Avatar and other heavy CG films.  Technology hasn’t just shortened the time it takes to produce movies, it has increased the sheer volume of movies exponentially.  In 2011 there were over 200 movies released to the theaters.  That doesn’t count straight to video movies.  In 2001 there were only 150 movies released to theaters.  Keep in mind, these stats are only for the United States.  The point is…with so many movies being released each week how do the studios keep coming up with…

    Sweet Trailer…'Playing For Keeps'

The trailer for Film District’s pending romantic comedy, Playing For Keeps, tells us one thing right off the bat: Gerard Butler is still firmly interred in rom-com prison. The single most interesting detail here is that for once he’s not being forced to play American, which lets the film have a little fun with little kids and British pejoratives. (Listening to little children scream “wanker”, for various reasons, takes me back to childhood. It’s a long story.) I don’t know if that sells the film to anyone beyond its core audience, but it’s a change of pace. Have a look… Playing to the norms of the genre, Butler plays a has-been…
