The 85th Annual Academy Awards – Full Winners List

Last night, the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony went off without a hitch and aside from some real shockers (like Ang Lee beating out Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino winning for best screenplay) it was an immensely delightful few hours. Despite what some think about Seth MacFarlane he really brought some life to the evening replete with some crass but still witty jokes, classic zingers, sock puppets as well as song and dance numbers that just made you smile. Like him or not we, and the crowd at the BigFanBoy/GoSeeTalk Oscar screening at The Angelika Film Center Dallas, thought he was a treat. But he was only the first in a…

David O. Russell to Direct Jennifer Lawrence In Two New Projects

When a filmmaker finds a talent he likes working with it can be, in the immortal words of Humphrey Bogart, “the beginning of a beautiful friendship“.  Well hot off the successful longevity that David O. Russell is seeing with his Silver Linings Playbook, he’s not done with Jennifer Lawrence, not by a long shot. As such the filmmaker is looking to work with the white-hot actress for two more pictures. He and Lawrence will be re-collaborating on his next two features. The first is a yet-untitled dark comedy, formerly known as American Bullshit, about the ABSCAM scandal. It’s a true story of a notorious financial con-artist and his mistress/partner in crime (played respectively…

First Glimpse at Katniss and Finnick in 'Catching Fire'

The folks over at Entertainment Weekly managed to score Lionsgate’s first two official images for the next installment in the Hunger Games trilogy (well, quadrilogy), Catching Fire. At this point you’ve probably seen the original film, which means you probably are well-acquainted with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) by now– so let me introduce you to Finnick Odair (Sam Clafin, of Snow White and the Huntsman), a former victor of the titular games and, as the book emphasizes repeatedly, one handsome son of a gun. How does Finnick figure into a story where Katniss already has two potential love interests? Good question. Turns out he’s a past victor of the Games…

“What’s New on Blu?” – Week of 01/07/13

Whether you rent or buy movies, Blu-ray offers the ultimate in sight and sound. Streaming is convenient, but if you plan on watching the movie more than once, you need Blu. So, What’s New On Blu? you ask. Well, good, bad or indifferent, Go,See,Talk offers up a trio of titles that are being released each week. Check out what’s hitting the shelves this week… ——————————————————————————————————————————— In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.  Although we were unable to screen Dredd 3D before its…

Bryan Singer Reveals Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart Will Return For 'Days of Future Past'

Bryan Singer thrilled the film (and comic) world when it was announced that he would step up for the next X-Men film after Matthew Vaughn bowed out. All things considered, X-Men: First Class was an amazing success and Vaugn would have probably done just a good a job with his second at bat. But that was then and now that Singer is back he’s going to try on even bigger pants than he started with more than a decade ago. As the premise for the latest X-Men film is quite a departure from the grounded narrative with social commentary that Singer started the series with, the themes are still familiar and relevant.…

    G-S-T Review…Silver Linings Playbook

The most startling thing about Silver Linings Playbook is its complete embrace of being unhinged. A film that revolves around mental health issues should feel unpredictable, even if people stubbornly want to shoehorn the film into the romantic comedy genre. Let me be clear here, then, that I never felt Silver Linings fell into that genre. In fact, it doesn’t play fair. This isn’t a neat film. When Jennifer Lawrence’s Tiffany is introduced to Bradley Cooper’s Pat, we see his gaze drift to her breasts ever so casually. When he looks up, we see recognition in her eyes. She doesn’t admonish him there, but later we understand this attention isn’t uncommon for her nor unwanted. Which is…

Interview…’Silver Linings Playbook’ Writer Matthew Quick

David O. Russell‘s vivacious new film, Silver Linings Playbook, is perhaps his best yet. While being full of charm and humor, it also has something to say about how fragile the mind is and what this world can do to someone on the brink. Bolstered by a barrier-breaking performance by Jennifer Lawrence and a surprisingly great turn by Bradley Cooper, the film will both shock and bewitch you. A lot of what Russell displays on the screen, however, is drawn from the novel of the same name by writer Matthew Quick, who was gracious enough to recently sit down with me to discuss the mixed emotions of watching his book on screen, his thoughts on…

    G-S-T Review…The Hunger Games

Film fans have seen various visions of dystopia and its many hypothesized forms for decades. From Brazil to Equilibrium, from Logan’s Run to The Running Man, there’s no shortage of dismal looking futures. Yet as bleak as those titles paint their depicted worlds, The Hunger Games lets us know that hope and heart are still part of the human condition. But very much like our own society  the aftermath still yields the ‘haves‘ and ‘have nots‘. In The Hunger Games the socioeconomic divides between The Capitol and The Districts are likened to the serf system of the medieval times. Yet the class split is much closer to home than some may realize. The next…

    Sweet TV Spot…'The Hunger Games'

This awesome 60 second TV spot for The Hunger Games has debuted and man does it get the job done. I’m oddly more excited for this than The Avengers. Wow, talk about a way to end the week…until Prometheus hits tomorrow that is. Anyway, this trailer gives us the most footage of that lavishly cold world we’ve seen yet. No more words…just watch (fyi, headphones are highly encouraged). So far The Hunger Games is getting GREAT word of mouth buzz and the early reviews are sporting pretty high praise. I’ll be checking out a screening on Monday so I’m super stoked for that. The embargo lifts on Tuesday the 20th…

    Sweet (2nd) Trailer…'The Hunger Games'

Today we’re treated to the second trailer for the adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘  best selling novel (the first in a series of 4 planned films from her 3 books). While the teaser didn’t do much but confuse, the first official trailer was infinitely more satisfying. From Yahoo, we have a shorter but deeper look into this bizarrely exquisite futuristic tale in which  “a nationally televised event in which ‘Tributes’ must fight with one another until one survivor remains“. Kind of looks like a mix of The Running Man, Logan’s Run and Harry Potter for the young adult set…but maybe that’s just me since I’ve never read the books. Anyway, have a look. The Hunger Games stars Jennifer…
