Well, file this under ‘U’ for unexpected, unbelievable, and utterly awesome. One of our very, very favorite films from the last decade is, hands down, The Croods. What Dreamworks and team did was deliver something so inventive, so imaginative, and so darn fun, I can’t understand why it hasn’t captured more of an audience. We raved about it in 2013 (check out our glowing review here) and I’ve loved it every single time I’ve seen it since. And now we have a sequel!! Really, what purpose do Nicolas Cage films serve other than a chance for him to showcase his latest wig/hair do?? I admit I love The Rock and actually like the first National Treasure however those are two high points among a resume of films where I personally find little else appealing. In my eyes, he offers nothing of value to any film and the crazy antics he’s know for just don’t fly in film these days. I will give him that he was pretty damn good in Bad Lieutenant and his small role in Kick Ass was unexpectedly hysterical but face it. You won’t stay in the Yankee’s starting line up…

I’m not the world’s biggest Nic Cage fan. There I said it. However I will admit although I am so tired of him, some of his of his work has found it’s way on to my Sacred Shelves (National Treasure, Bad Lieutenant and The Rock) and one of them into my heart (just The Rock). I think his over the top acting has its place and one of his goofiest roles has to be in Con Air. That movie is almost the epitome of guilty pleasure and to me some lines just stick out like none other in film history…whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing I’ll never know.…

G-S-T Review…Kick-Ass
Not being very familiar with Kick-Ass, I was excited because of how the trailers looked and felt, but more importantly, the fact that this is directed by long time Guy Ritchie collaborator, Matthew Vaughn. So, knowing little to nothing about the “source material” I walked into the theater hoping for a ride as sweet as Red Mist‘s Mustang. In short, the movie didn’t live up to the trailers but was still an enjoyable time.
