    G-S-T Review…Dead Man Down

Typically, a chorus of disapproval accompanies the arrival of celebrated foreign filmmakers in Hollywood. The studio system, so goes the familiar song and dance, will suck the life right out of their work and excise everything special about them in favor of formula and higher box office returns. There are, of course, exceptions. Alfred Hitchcock and Paul Verhoeven, for instance, produced some of their best films their respective Tinseltown tenures, but they could well be examples that prove the rule; far more often we see directors visiting from overseas, like Susanne Bier and Fernando Meirelles, get chewed up and spat out on the sidewalk, their style rendered unrecognizable courtesy of…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…Passion

Rachel McAdams has, most times, been the lovable girl next door and Noomi Rapace is, thanks to the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, riding high in Hollywood (really hope she is more than a foreign flavor of the year and becomes the next big thing). But the two of them look poised to really push their boundaries in the official trailer for Brian DePalma’s TIFF selected film Passion. How does it stack up to his other bold and artistic films like Sisters, Blow Out, Carrie and Scarface…guess we’ll find out but the trailer does look rather edgy in a 90’s kind of way. Enjoy! A remake of Love Crime, the French film by Alain Corneau, DePalma…

    G-S-T Review…Prometheus

Prometheus, industrious and monstrously ambitious, deserves to be seen divorced from hype and hubris. Admittedly, that’s scarcely a small feat. Few films released in 2012 carry with them the massive weight of expectations which Prometheus bears on its shoulders. That’s just how things go for any production intent on serving as the precursor to cinematic iconography; in the case of Prometheus, that’s Alien, Ridley Scott’s 1979 science fiction/horror masterpiece. How does even a master like Scott top one of his best works more than thirty years after the fact? Put simply, he doesn’t have to, pedigree or not. His film only need exist on its individual merits, and happily Prometheus, a beautiful and thoughtful and flawed creation story, very…

    Sweet Trailer…'Prometheus'

We don’t usually post on the weekend but as this is a trailer for one of G-S-T’s three most anticipated films of 2012 (and from SIR Ridley Scott no less) we are happy to bend the rules just  a little. For your viewing pleasure, behold, the first FULL trailer for the quasi-Alien prequel Prometheus… When it was first reported that Ridely would be returning to this universe it provoked both cheers and jitters from fans the world over. Most everyone on the planet would undoubtedly love to see the series righted after the recent disappointing and insulting installments. However, going back to the beginning is always worrisome because there’s a chance that, even with Ridely on board,…

    G-S-T Review…Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows

Editor’s Note: Go,See,Talk presents this review of Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows as the debut entry from our guest contributing writer Bill Graham. He’s going to be making some more appearances on G-S-T in the next few weeks so have a look at what he had to say about the sequel to Guy Ritchie’s 2009 blockbuster and offer your thoughts below. As a movie-goer, I value my time. So often the inflated budgets of the modern blockbuster results in an obese runtime that attempts to show off as much of that cost as it can. At times it feels like the length of the film is, for better or worse, directly related…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Prometheus'

For the last three days we’ve been teased about the forthcoming teaser to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The so-called prequel to his first iconic sci-fi film Alien this takes place long before the Nostromo crew first touched down on LV-426. From the looks of it we can expect to learn a little more about the Space Jockey mythology fans have been waiting for and of course intense Scott-style action. If you look up epic in the dictionary you’ll see just two words; Ridley and Scott. The man was born to create larger than life adventures and is truly one of the very best directors of all time. So enough padding his…
