Sweet Trailer…Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’

For a filmmaker who is on the cusp of his own portended retirement, this could be one helluva swan song. Quentin Tarantino returns with his eagerly anticipated The Hateful Eight and already it looks like it will be everything we’ve been expecting. Touting a full-on roster of QT regulars, this snow bound, star-studded tale of betrayal and deception is going to be all the more striking when the Quentin’s glorious crimson spatters decorate a snowy white landscape. Man, this really makes me want to dive into Quentin’s last 4 or 5 films (especially Django), or any number of Kurt Russell flicks, just to tide me over. One thing is for…

The 85th Annual Academy Awards – Full Winners List

Last night, the 85th Annual Academy Awards ceremony went off without a hitch and aside from some real shockers (like Ang Lee beating out Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino winning for best screenplay) it was an immensely delightful few hours. Despite what some think about Seth MacFarlane he really brought some life to the evening replete with some crass but still witty jokes, classic zingers, sock puppets as well as song and dance numbers that just made you smile. Like him or not we, and the crowd at the BigFanBoy/GoSeeTalk Oscar screening at The Angelika Film Center Dallas, thought he was a treat. But he was only the first in a…

    G-S-T Review…Django Unchained

If there’s one filmmaker who marches to the beat of his own drum, it’s Quentin Tarantino. Raised on a healthy cinematic diet of spaghetti westerns, gritty 60’s/70’s cult classics, not to mention pretty much everything in the Australian documentary Not Quite Hollywood and more, he has become one of the film world’s most talented and widely accepted acquired tastes. From Pulp Fiction to Jackie Brown to Kill Bill to his 2009 film Inglourious Basterds, QT has learned so much about how to make film that Django Unchained might just be the pinnacle of his efforts. So how does Tarantino weave that special kind of magic? Simple, outright theft. Now that’s not…

This quick but concise list of required reading will be sure to make Django more enjoyable walking into Quentin Tarantino’s latest live-letter genre film.  Director Quentin Tarantino is unleashing DJANGO UNCHAINED in theaters on Christmas Day, which in may ways is his love letter to Hollywood Westerns. Being a fan of that genre, and aware enough to spot some of his more…

Tarantino (Likely) Won't Kill Bill Again

Fleeting comments from a filmmaker walking the red carpet at the premiere of their latest film shouldn’t be taken as set-in-stone guarantees. That’s just good sense. But as we wait for the impending release of Django Unchained, any news about Quentin Tarantino’s future projects is interesting news, so take this little tidbit well-salted. The guys over at We Got This Covered managed to ask QT a couple of questions at the opening of Django Unchained in Toronto, and the continuation of the Kill Bill series was at the top of their list. In the past, Tarantino has expressed a desire to expand on the Kill Bill universe with two more movies (revolving around crippled Crazy…

    Interesting…Quentin Tarantino's Top 8 of 2009

I’ve become fan of Quentin’s all over again since this year’s absoultuely awesome Inglourious Basterds remake.  So for you fans (new and old) The Hollywood Reporter has this little video of Quentin’s Top 8 movies so far this year.  Interesting, albeit short and incomplete… [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlGNpNasNNI] Funny when he says, “obviously not mentioning my movie“.  The more I find out about him, the more I realize he’s not as pompous as I once thought.  Definitely not high and mighty if he’s including Observe and Report and the Sam Raimi return to horror camp Drag Me to Hell in his list of “Best Films”.  Ah, to each his own I guess, but what do you think?  Anyone…
