    Off the Shelf…’Aladdin’

It is no surprise that 20 years later, Aladdin, quite possibly the most amazing and crowd-pleasing film in the Disney Renaissance, still holds up. While the film is ever more than the sum of its parts, two decades of having songs and characters ingrained in our brains and pop culture have shown just how transcendent the film was, and continues to be. A colorful mix of great voice talent, witty writing, dazzling visual splendor, and of course the songs that nearly everyone knows the words to contribute in making this animated effort an outstanding cinematic achievement. There are plenty of other places to find gushing and glowing reviews of this…

    G-S-T Top 10 – Movies Off The Beaten Path…

Movies, and the entertainment business, can be highly hit or miss because of ranging tastes in film and how people approach the medium. Sometimes, for whatever reason, you hear about a movie and have no desire to see it and don’t. You may even avoid it at all cost. In other cases you have no idea the film exists until someone points it out to you, years after its original release. The following entries on our new series of Top 10 lists are films I happened to stumble upon or that were recommended to me. I watched, despite not knowing much about them or having initial apprehensions toward them for…

    G-S-T Quick 5 – Movies I've Warmed Up To…

OK, here I am, humbly walking on the ground where I, like broken glass, laid out all the bad things I said about these movies. In the past I might have either not been in the right mindset for these films or maybe not been able to comprehend what they were trying to do. While not all of these are masterpieces (some fans would argue that one of them is) the films on this list now get my approval. I now feel much more of a connection with these films and honestly enjoy quite a bit whereas before I would say flat-out “I hated it”. Ah, the folly of youth… ——————————————————————————————————————————————— Boiler…

    Off the Shelf…'Hook'

I think it’s fair to say that a great many people overlook this film and it wasn’t really popular when it came out, but over the years I have learned to love Hook. Steven Spielberg can almost do no wrong and while this is a departure from the actioners he is known to helm, this still had its fair share of kid friendly swashbuckling. Talk about an ensemble cast, this film has acting talent in spades…
