Sam Mendes Confirmed to Direct 24th James Bond Film

After much deliberation about whether or not Sam Mendes would indeed return to direct the next Bond film, today the film’s producers and executives announced that not only will Daniel Craig be returning as the legendary British secret agent in the 24th James Bond film, Mendes will also return to direct the screenplay written by John Logan. Great news for James Bond Fans! Mendes recently stated his theatre commitments to direct King Lear and Charlie and the Chocolate Factor would leave him unable to direct the film, but after the success of Skyfall producers were willing to work around Mendes’ schedule. Smart move. The film, titled simply, Bond 24, is set for theatrical release in the UK…

    Mendes Too Busy For Bond

A few weeks back, we published a piece detailing the rumors of Sam Mendes’ potential return to the James Bond franchise with its next installment (for now referred to simply as “Bond 24“). While he didn’t rule out the possibility of directing the picture, he offered enough caveats to maintain uncertainty. As of today, he’s given a solid answer, but it’s not the one we wanted to hear: Mendes will not be directing the next Bond movie. At least the news doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Speaking to Empire, he revealed that the decision stems from his prior theater commitments; he’s directing both King Lear and Charlie and the…

Sam Mendes Could Be Bonded To The Next 007 Movie

Somebody at either Eon Productions or MGM must have some potent persuasive talents: Sam Mendes, despite expressing  sentiment to the contrary, may end up at the helm of the next James Bond picture after all. The rumor comes right from an article in The Daily Mail, which suggests that Mendes has been “75%” convinced to take the wheel for Bond 24, and that pre-production could start by the end of this year or the start of 2014. The deciding factors? Whether the project will fit into Mendes’ busy theater schedule (he’s directing King Lear at the National Theatre next January, and he’s assembling a musical version of Charlie and the Chocolate…

Ohhh, Look…More 007 Visual Candy; 'Skyfall' Intro and Bond Doc

Gotta love this Internet. The latest James Bond film, Skyfall, opened in US theaters less than a week ago. A massive hit already (deemed by some to be the best Bond yet) but now you can behold the marvelous opening title sequence without even setting foot in a cineplex! Though to the credit of Sam Mendes and Daniel Kleinman you should totally see this on the BIG screen. To those who know Bond, the films always feature a rather beautiful kaleidoscopic opening credits sequence. A combination of guns, girls, and a mix of foreshadowed plot and film footage, this wondrously dark sequence is perfectly complimented by Adele’s theme song which just…

    G-S-T Review…Skyfall

Even after 4 years, Quantum of Solace still leaves a rather bland taste in mouths of Bond fans (though much of the flat reception the film was met with can be chalked up to the writer’s strike). As such, Bond would have a lot of making up to do in his next outing. But thanks to another solid turn from Daniel Craig, a fantastic cast to play opposite, great story, music and all of this under the artistic eye of Sam Mendes, Skyfall is not only one the franchises’ best installments but easily sits among the likes of the most beloved Connery films. Sounds like lofty praise but really it earns and…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Skyfall'

We are about 6 months away from the highly anticipated 23rd entry to the 007 franchise and today we get the very first teaser trailer! Skyfall is directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Away We Go) and will see the return of Daniel Crag for his third outing as the world’s most popular super-spy. For a teaser, this looks really, really good. It doesn’t give much away but still hints at the allure and mystique we’ve come to expect in the James Bond universe. Enough talk, enjoy… Craig will be sharing the screen with some simply top drawer talent including Dame Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, Bérénice Marlohe, as…

Ohhh, Look…007 'Skyfall' Photos, Production Blog & More – UPDATED

The latest James Bond film Skyfall is slated to hit theaters this Fall on November 9th, 2012. As we approach its release we’ve been given lots of tidbits, in the form of candid shots, but nothing substantial. While they can be neat to look at and pique our interests (like the first one of Javier Bardem) we’re easily a month or two from the first teaser trailer. That said, this post will serve as a catch all for the 007 stuff that’s been released and provide just a little commentary/info about Skyfall (as well as take a break from all the Avengers coverage). James Bond film fans have had to patiently wait…

Thomas Newman Steps In To Score Sam Mendes' Bond Film 'Skyfall'

After composer David Arnold’s five film run scoring Bond films, Oscar-nominee Thomas Newman will now be stepping in to lend his musical genius to the newest Bond adventure Skyfall. That sounds like great news to me, but he might not ring a bell with you at home so here’s a few titles you might recall. Those of you Pixar fans will recognize his work from Finding Nemo and Wall-E. He’s also had his share of  weighty and dramatic period pieces with Revolutionary Road, Cinderella Man and The Help. His scores are always highly emotional and pensive but how will that translate to the high octane world of MI 6’s most famous 00 agent? Guess we’ll find out…

'Bond 23' Has Its Villain…Javier Bardem

Wow, it’s been too long since I’ve heard casting news this good! After MGM’s unfortunate financial woes, it looked like the world’s most beloved super-spy James Bond, contrary to his famous post credits tag line, might not return to the silver screen. Thankfully, through those oh so secret meeting behind executives’ closed doors, all the hiccups and hurdles were cleared and the latest Bond has been moving forward with director extraordinaire Sam Mendes at the helm. But like any story, a hero is only as good as his villain and Bond 23 has snagged a doozy.
