Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…Disney's 'Oz: The Great and Powerful' – UPDATED

Disney looks to have quite the line up as their Wreck-It Ralph will hit theaters this November but next year we get an even more fantastical story with Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful. Raimi looks to trade web-shooters and campy horror for the Yellow Brick Road and wizards/witches. We got a stunningly gorgeous teaser poster last week and now, from Hall H of Comic-Con, comes this first look at the return to the mystical land of Oz in L. Frank Baum’s beloved story…enjoy! Oh, and make sure you take note of the sly transition from 4:3 to wide screen. From a screenplay by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire Oz The Great and Powerfuldirected by Sam…

Ohhh, Look…First Teaser Poster for Disney's 'Oz the Great and Powerful'

One of the great things that’s happening in Hollywood is the exploration of ideas behind films we love. Back stories, prequels and the like show us a side to films/characters we thought we know and, when they’re done successfully, give much more depth and intricacy. However this isn’t the first time our understanding of Oz has been altered or enhanced as the Broadway musical Wicked is highly entertaining as it takes huge liberties with L. Frank Baum’s beloved story. But while Wicked focused on the little seen (and misunderstood) Witches, now we get a story from the side of another character who is just as important in the film, the actual Wizard of Oz: When…

    Sweet Teaser Trailer…'Jack Reacher'

Proof positive that like a good wine, Cruise gets better (and more bad-ass) with age. Behold the official first teaser trailer for Jack Reacher, the latest from writer/director Christopher McQuarrie (remember him?) and the one, the only Tom Cruise. Based on the Lee Child novel/crime series One Shot, Jack Reacher is a homicide investigator digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims. Enjoy… Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, The Way of the Gun) makes a pretty slick looking return to films as he both writes and directs this adaption from Child’s novel. Along for the wild ride is a pretty stellar A-list crew including…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Epic'

In Blue Sky Studios‘ upcoming film Epic a teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and evil rages on. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world — and ours. If this sounds sort of like a certain forest based adventure that starts with Fern and ends with gully, lets just put a little faith in Blue Sky that they’ve got something better to offer than a CG remake. Suffer one advert and enjoy this marvelously vibrant first look at Epic. Based on William Joyce’s children’s book known as The Leaf Men, Chris Wedge (Ice…

    Teaser Trailer…'The Host'

Now that the saga of the Cullens is breaking dawn, I mean winding down (and we’re not going to see The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner on the big screen) what will fans of Stephanie Meyer do? Well there’s always fan-fiction and aside from reading/watching the series again and again, they can start getting excited about Meyer’s other fairly popular novel The Host. Going for a sci-fi angle this time, Meyer’s story is about an alien invasion and focuses on one of the last humans who chooses to fight back. Not much to it but it’s got an interesting premise. Have a look… The Host stars Saoirse Ronan as Melanie Stryder the girl who takes a…

    Sweet (Red Band) Teaser…'Cosmopolis'

David Cronenberg  is undoubtedly a visionary…even if most people don’t get or understand his vision. Still, just to make it through any number of his films, like Naked Lunch or Videodrome for instance, deserves a pat on the back. His last film A Dangerous Method didn’t seem all too Cronenbergish but don’t worry dear fans, he still has weird on the brain. Case in point. The upcoming film Cosmoplolis which stars Robert Pattinson who plays a young billionaire Eric Packer. Recently faced with losing his empire, he begins to uncover clues that lead him to a more dire and terrifying secret: his imminent assassination. All you R-Pat fans, be advised, this teaser is weird and more importantly NSFW.…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Frankenweenie'

Looks like trailer week continues as today we’re treated to the teaser for Tim Burton’s long awaited Frankenweenie. This animated feature, expanded from his short from 1984, is about a boy who brings his dead dog back to life. Similarly styled and stop-motion animated like A Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, this should hit home for those die-hard Burton fans out there. I’m not the biggest Nightmare Before Christmas fan but this does look pretty cute. Have a look… Originally when Burton created the short film in ’84 Disney fired him for making something that was apparently too scary for family audiences. This feature length film has certainly been a long time coming…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Neighborhood Watch'

Here’s a little something to help you finish up your day. The video below is a teaser trailer for the new comedy Neighborhood Watch starring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade. It’s not great but it has enough humor to possibly get a chuckle out of you. Have a look… It does seem ho-hum even for a teaser, but I wouldn’t write it off yet as this is directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Sure you might think it has a sort of a Dodgeball meets Wild Hogs aging hipster vibe but the teaser is a bit misleading. FOr some clarification,…

Ohhh, Look…First 12 Minutes of Indie Flick 'Sound Of My Voice' – UPDATED

On Tuesday Fox Searchlight offered the first 2 minutes of their creepy new film Sound of My Voice and some of you probably wondered what about 120 seconds of footage was worth posting. Well first off, it was void of any credits so it was a full 2 minutes of material. Beyond that, it was really enticing/creepy and left off right when you wanted to know more. Well today you’re in luck as the studio has given us the first 12 minutes. For those unfamiliar with it, the official synopsis reads: Peter and Lorna, a couple and documentary filmmaking team, infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie. Intent…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'The Bourne Legacy'

The spy world is bigger than we ever imaged and to show it is this teaser for the Tony Gilroy written & directed parallel to the Doug Liman/Paul Greengrass films. Even the tag line “There was never just one” is smart and speaks volumes. Cemented as a bad-ass in The Hurt Locker and hot off the success of the latest Mission Impossible, Jeremy Renner looks to become the next big action hero. This film will be the start of a whole new series following a Jason Bourne-like agent. But since it’s as much about the agency as it is the agent, there’s plenty of nods to the Damon films as well as familiar faces with…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'Prometheus'

For the last three days we’ve been teased about the forthcoming teaser to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The so-called prequel to his first iconic sci-fi film Alien this takes place long before the Nostromo crew first touched down on LV-426. From the looks of it we can expect to learn a little more about the Space Jockey mythology fans have been waiting for and of course intense Scott-style action. If you look up epic in the dictionary you’ll see just two words; Ridley and Scott. The man was born to create larger than life adventures and is truly one of the very best directors of all time. So enough padding his…

    Sweet (Teaser) Trailer…'The Avengers'

Oh boy comic fans, today is a very special day. The teaser for Joss Whedon’s The Avengers just hit the web and it’s got fan boys (and girls) excited for what is probably the largest superhero movie ever created. Assembling the members one by one in semi-interweaving origin stories Marvel (and now Disney) has taken one helluva chance on the success of this ensemble film. I have a feeling that it’ll be awesome but you probably don’t need me to tell you that right? So until we get a full trailer, another and the endless TV spots, have a look at what Whedon will be bringing us next May. Man, I know…
