    Off the Shelf…'TRON: Legacy'

TRON – loved/hated, esoteric and dated has, after 28 years, been given a proper sequel. This isn’t the first time a film has been dusted off and given a follow-up after the fact, but the real question is (in the case of TRON specifically): How do you make a nearly 30 year old property relevant again? Why, “Reboot” it of course (and that seems all the more funnier since this is a computer based film). Sure reboots have been all the rage in Hollywood in the last decade but it’s yielded mixed results. But in this case, doing so does the world of TRON quite a proper service. While Legacy has…

    Off the Shelf…'TRON'

When I originally reviewed TRON, I was heretofore unfamiliar with the likes of Flynn, Sark, MCP etc and as such enjoyed my first time viewing of this cult classic completely free of nostalgia. Last week Disney re-released TRON (this time in a stunning Blu Ray transfer) and after re-watching it I’ve come to realize just how special TRON really is. True, it is known for being esoteric, artsy, a bit goofy and unintelligible but TRON is more than just the sum of its parts. Further, it’s a lot smarter than the laughable light suits let on.

Ohhh, Look…Fan-Made "For Your Oscar Consideration" Poster

This goes out to all you fans of Daft Punk. More specifically those of you who LOVE their music from TRON Legacy. While it was at time the score was so much more exciting than the film, Daft Punk knocked this right out of the park. Apparently I’m not the only one who thought highly of it as an artist at Deviant Art has created this awesome “For Your Oscar Consideration” poster. Equal parts retro and innovative it’s just graphically stunning. Very awesome and I think calling this “Dope” sums it up nicely:P Check it out below!!

    G-S-T Review…Tron Legacy

It still boggles my mind that after nearly 30 years anyone would want to go back to a film that has the dual notoriety of being a flop* as well as a cult classic. Something of a black sheep in the Disney family of films Tron, before now, was relatively unknown to most modern audiences. Yet while the original film was ahead of its time but still lacked much of the technology to really do it right, Disney still thought they had something worth exploring. Enter Joseph Kosinski and a budget of over 300 million (production and marketing) and Disney sought out to make a dazzling film for the ages. Not sure they…

Does Viral Marketing Guarantee Cinematic Success?

We’ve seen how well the viral marketing for The Dark Knight was executed.  The movie was the highest grossing film of 2008 and now sits at 3nd on the All Time Box Office Chart (under both of Cameron’s uber successful films), and for those of you who still didn’t notice, it raked in over 1 billion dollars when you add international box office receipts. TDK was already going to be a cash cow. It was the much-anticipated sequel to Batman Begins, which was done so well that the fans could count on a bigger, better sequel. So it certainly didn’t need more help than that to sell it. I think the news about the…

    Off the Netflix Queue…'TRON'

Let’s just get past the fact that I haven’t seen TRON before now. I know, I know, it’s a staple, it’s a classic, it’s a (insert any number of nostalgia driven praises) but I just hadn’t seen it before. So there we are. Now despite seeing some glimpses of it while channel surfing over the years and the references to it in both The Simpsons (sorry couldn’t find the English clip) and  The Family Guy (or this one – also in a foreign language) I was none the wiser to “Flynn’s Arcade” and those awesome “light cycles”. Some would say I was missing out, but I had my own movies to keep my…
