Today the Web is buzzing with news of the new Bond film. Until now Bond’s upcoming film has been titled very simply Bond 23 but today we get a singular name: Skyfall. Sony Pictures had a big press conference about the next James Bond earlier today and all the key players of Skyfall were present including producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes and stars Daniel Craig, who returns for his third film as James Bond 007. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan wrote the screenplay for Skyfall which goes into production on this coming Monday, November 7th. More from the official press release after the jump.
Joining Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Director Sam Mendes at the press conference were members of the cast of SKYFALL, including: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe. The filmmakers also announced Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw for their supporting credit and we got our first look at Craig and his newest Bond girls Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris.
Getting back to the standalone nature of the Bond universe SKYFALL will have no ties to the previous two installments Casion Royale or Quantum of Solace. In this film, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. MI6 comes under attack and 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Sounds pretty vague but with Javier Bardem as the villain I bet it will be awesome and menacing up, down and sideways.
“We’re so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct SKYFALL and be working once again with Daniel Craig. We’ve a great script, an extraordinary cast and an incredibly talented creative team for this latest James Bond adventure,” said Wilson and Broccoli.
The Director of Photography for Skyfall (which kind of sounds like a followup to Point Break if you ask me) is nine-time Oscar nominee Roger Deakins who previously shot the films Jarhead and Revolutionary Road for Mendes. Also on board is Oscar winning Production Designer Dennis Gassner (another Mendes alum) who previously designed Quantum of Solace and collaborated with Mendes on the films Road to Perdition and Jarhead.
Finally all you 007 fans can keep up on all SKYFALL news at the James Bond franchise Facebook page at www.facebook.com/JamesBond007.
SKYFALL will begin its worldwide roll-out in the UK and Ireland on October 26th 2012 and in North America on November 9th 2012. I’m not going to try and keep from over-hyping this but it still is news worth getting excited about. Anyone else stoked that Bond 23, er Skyfall is finally moving forward??

Call me stoked. Love the Craig Bond, he’s no Roger Moore…..but who is besides Roger Moore? We should have had an installment a long time ago. Any time we can get Moore Bond (see how I did that?) it’s a good thing.

Haha! Yes, it’s a good thing that after all the financial woes (and that POS QoS…see what I did?:P) and whatnot we’re finally on our way. Cast and crew look like winners all around. Can’t wait to see how it comes together!
