From director Jon M. Chu comes this somewhat related sequel to Stephen Sommers’ G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra. Picking up with the brilliant plot-line that (spoiler!!) covertly put Cobra in the White House, Zartan in now acting as The President of the United States. Under his orders, the G.I. Joes have been hunted down and eliminated…or so we think. The few who survived the massacre are now going head-to-head with the Zartan, and the world leaders he has under his influence, to clear their names. Yo Joe!
Tell me that wasn’t the least bit awesome! I seriously geeked out at the Cobra banners on The White House. Doesn’t that just seem like something right out of the cartoon? It certainly looks like Zombieland writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Jon M. Chu are definitely giving us a grittier Joe flick. I guess Retaliation tends to imply that doesn’t it? This time around we’re getting the return of Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Byung-hun Lee, Arnold Vosloo/Jonathan Pryce plus Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis for just a little more action horse power/machismo.
Paramount will be bringing the Joes back to theaters in G.I. JOE: Retaliation next Summer on June 29th, 2012. I’m beyond stoked for this but I’ll ask you…This got anyone else excited? Anyone think this is more in line with that Resolute anime?

That does look pretty sweet. Adding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to the franchise will certainly take it to the next level. It’s definitely on my “must see” list for 2012.

This looks a lot better than I expected. I guess you can’t really do worse than the first one but this has a much more badass tone to it. Plus they killed off the entire GI Joe team so it fits with the fact that most of the cast is gone ahah

The best part is the ending when John McClane showed up.

@Grady…Right there with you. Looks like G.I. Joe is putting on the big boy pants and that’s gonna be exciting to watch.
@Castor…Agreed! But I for one, while not defending it, still rather liked the first…well, about as much as you can like a popcorn film that is. Very curious to see how they step it up for this sequel and how dark they go.
@Ruth…Haha, you said it:)

How do you improve on a mediocre film? Throw in ninjas, have them fight on a cliff, and make The Rock your star. That alone is enough to perk me up a bit, but it’s really the Willis moment at the end that sold me. Perfect.
I’m surprised to say that I could end up catching this in theaters instead of waiting for DVD.
