Calling all you action junkies. Do you love bombastic films? Do you love running and gunning? How about being afraid of the full moon lest it turn you into a 9-foot tall Lycan hungering for human flesh? Ok, that one may not be for everyone, but the other two should grab your attention.
But on that note, we got the rare chance to speak with Frank Grillo about his foray into all of the above-mentioned cinematic buckets. To date, Frank has been in nearly 100 projects. While most of them involve guns, explosions, and tense action scenes, there’s also some high points on his resume that have some real gravitas.
For instance, he was cast in director Martin Campbell‘s revenge flick/adaptation Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson, and the absolutely exceptional Wheelman which is a four-wheel, white-knuckler from Netflix. He’s also compelling in smaller features where his minimal screen time is eclipsed by his sage-like wisdom (and wonderfully luxuriant hair) in films like Body Brokers and Warrior. Anyway you slice it, if you’ve got Frank Grillo on your project, there’s bound to be fireworks.
As he continues to flex his acting muscles, he looks for new opportunities. This year, Frank landed the perfect role to branch out with starring in Steven C Miller’s genre-bending werewolf film, aptly named Werewolves. In our interview, we talked about practical effects, getting into character and the potential for this to spawn multiple sequels. Fingers crossed as this was a very original take on the werewolf genre. For now, enjoy our chat with Frank, check out the film next month, and don’t forget to reload!
In WEREWOLVES, a supermoon event has triggered a latent gene in every human on the planet, turning anyone who entered the moonlight into a werewolf for that one night. Chaos ensued and close to a billion people died. Now, a year later, the Supermoon is back….
Werewolves is in Theaters on December 6, 2024.
