From Lionsgate and The Furst Brothers comes a daytime horror film in the tradition of Cujo, Midsommar, Sharknado and Cheech and Chong’s Things Are Tough All Over. Their latest, A Breed Apart, is the spirit animal sequel to 2006’s The Breed.
The team of Griff and Nathan Furst are writers/directors from a famous filmmaking household – one I can only assume their motto is “Family Furst“? Their father famously played ‘Flounder’ in Animal House, and was in The Dream Team with Michael Keaton (among many other projects in his decades long career), so cinema is certainly in their blood.
We got to sit with them to talk about the absurd story, working with friends, shooting on incredible locations, and lots more including the cast of Hayden Panettiere, Virginia Gardner and Grace Caroline Currey who star in this tail of terror. No dogs or influencers were harmed during the making of this film…but many suffered shocking deaths. So watch out, things get pretty hairy!

When Violet accepts an invitation to a private island with some of the world’s most famous social influencers, she expects a weekend of unrivaled viral opportunity. She soon becomes part of her own horrific reality show when the guests are pitted against each other to capture the island’s legendary man-eating dogs before they become victims of the monstrous canines.
Lionsgate will release A BREED APART in theaters, on demand, and on digital on May 16, 2025.
