Interview…Molly Rogers on Violin, Vocals and Melodic Brilliance

They say that “practice makes perfect.” Yet, in any profession, practice really just makes you better. The pursuit of excellence and precision is constant for many musicians. They may second guess themselves along the way, but as an audience member, seeing what they do is almost like watching magic. Today we feature one such individual who is so accomplished and proficient, we’re not even sure she’s human.

Violinist and vocalist Molly Rogers has incomparable skills, an otherworldly sound, and she works hard at her craft. Like really hard. After all, you don’t get this good overnight. But that last one is important because as a contractor, you never know if the phone is going to ring tomorrow. You kind of have to be a workaholic…but you can still have a lot of fun doing it.

We had a really insightful session with Molly to talk shop and discuss the things she’s most passionate about. On the show today, Molly lets her hair down (figuratively), and talks affectionately about work life and upbringing in a musical family – it was that support and encouragement which helped a lot. What started with piano gave way to violin, and from there she was hooked. However, strings and songs are not her only focus. Molly likes to have a good time, and when she’s not in work mode, she loves playing video games. She can also run through all the film scores that move and inspire her.

As far as professional leanings, Molly is very busy whether in sessions, a quartet, or touring the world. Most of the time traveling shows are as fun as it looks, barring some red eye flights or initial stage fright. Being part of “The Disruptive Collective” with Hans Zimmer Live finds her taking the stage with absolute world-class instrumentalists, and some have become extended family. They help and support each other and, suffice to say, they get by with a little help from their friends.

Whether it is the violin and vocals on John Debney‘s score to Horizon: An American Saga, the playful fun of Ludwig Göransson‘s Turning Red, the ethereal sound she gives to live performances of Hans Zimmer‘s Interstellar, or countless others, Molly’s work helps make the final product infinitely more impressive. Now join us as we talk about everything from classical work to covers to the concert experience of a lifetime on this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
