This month we look at and appreciate the things we’re thankful for…and top of that list is music. So here’s to all the artists and composers who have made our hearts swell, helped our emotions soar and, sometimes, put our nerves on notice.
So enter the ever fabulous Ariel Marx who has lent her deft hand to Hulu’s Murdaugh: A Death in the Family. In this original series soundtrack, Marx’s distinctive use of dissonant sounds and striking atmospherics immediately creates an unsettling tone for the horrific true story of the Murdaugh murders case. It’s dripping with so much tension and deep-friend drama that you can practically smell the butter.
Well ahead of Turkey day, it’s a real thrill to share one cue from the upcoming digital release of the score. Marx is getting quite a lot of attention for all her work on projects being released this year, and this is one of the best yet. Lakeshore Records is set to release the album on November 7, but you can enjoy this extra special track below…
Emmy-nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist, Ariel Marx draws from many genres and often combines orchestral and rare instruments with electronics to create unique worlds of sound. Her scores have premiered in films at Sundance, TIFF, SXSW, Tribeca, Woodstock, Criterion Channel, as well as films and shows on Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, FX, HBO, Mubi, Discovery+ and more.

Marx is seemingly at home with whatever she puts her hands and mind to, and the label is happy to help get her work out there. Herein, she notes that:
“I’m excited to team up with Lakeshore again to release the score for Murdaugh: Death in the Family. With brushstrokes of acoustic guitars, jaw harps and processed woodwinds, this album explores the southern underbelly and tragic legacy of the Murdaugh family.”
