Interview…Casper Kelly on the Warped and Demented Deliciousness of ‘Buddy’

As a film fan, it’s comforting to know that when a director – an auteur if you will – debuts their latest project you know exactly what you’re gonna get. Think of the greats like Jim Jarmusch, David Fincher, even John Carpenter. Today we celebrate one such individual, and when it comes to the wonderfully vivid worlds of Casper Kelly, things are guaranteed to be warped, demented and delicious.

Kelly has always imagined what life is really like on the other side of the TV screen. But, once you’re through the looking glass, the sunshine and rainbows we see are actually a mudslide of panic and terror.

You’ve heard of “Bayhem“, but I say we come up with something for Casper. Something like “Casper is unafraid to show us the wonders of his ‘Kellaleidoscope‘.” We’re still workshoping it, but I dare say his style is so playful that Kelly’s brilliance can often be eclipsed by the sheer absurdity of the universes created.

Having pushed the boundaries of lunacy on Adult Swim with cult classics like Too Many Cooks, and the unbridled lunacy in his pair of Yule Log fever dreams, Buddy is another chaotic haymaker as pitch-perfect love letter to early ’90s children’s television. And leave it to CK to give you something that feels so outlandish it might have been rejected by the Black Mirror team. Well, their loss because Kelly delivers the goods.

Enjoy this session with Casper, the friendly creative on this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
