Potentially exciting news for Marvel diehards, disciples of Edgar Wright, and anyone with a general interest in superhero films: Wright’s first foray into superherodom, Ant-Man, has an official release date of November 6th, 2015. The announcement comes from an update Disney sent out regarding their slate of upcoming films, which mostly just confirms information we already knew or could have guessed ourselves (like the fact that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 will both be in 3D). Ant-Man having a date on the books, though, is news enough almost on its own merits if only because of Wright’s involvement; he’s an exciting filmmaker and someone whose projects (including next year’s The World’s End) I’ll always keep a lookout for.
What’s really fun about this bit of information is that the film’s theatrical run starts just over six months after The Avengers 2 crash-lands in multiplexes on May 1st, 2013. In any other case I don’t know that I’d make odds or ends of their calendar relationship, but Marvel loves to introduce and/or tease new characters in its existing properties– which could mean we end up seeing Henry Pym or Scott Lang (since Wright talked about the former being in the prologue and the latter serving as his successor in the rest of the film). Will Ant-Man make his big-screen debut in Joss Whedon’s follow-up to his superhero spectacular? Or will his first appearance be in another Marvel property? Commence the premature speculation in the comments section!
