Interview…Oscar-winning Film Composer Steven Price On His Ethereal and Unrelenting Score for ‘Fury’

    2014/10/17

In the second half of 2013, British film composer Steven Price made quite a name for himself. He scored two very popular films which were both commercial and critical hits. Once the dust of awards season settled, Price found he had walked away with some of the most coveted honors including the Academy Award for “Best Original Score” for Gravity. Alfonso Cuarón’s space fiasco film, (which starred Sandra Bullock and George Clooney) was an amazing cinematic achievement. But it was Price’s ethereal and abstract musical accompaniment that truly helped make Gravity an experience we likely won’t forget any time soon. But Gravity was not the first time this hard working musician…

Home Grown Texas Talent Interview Series – Stars/Director on ‘The Houses October Built’

    2014/10/14

One of the more imaginative horror movies to hit theaters this year is The Houses That October Built. Filmed in and around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex a few years ago, it uses the concept of found footage and haunted house attractions being more than what they appear. Our buddy Mark Walters of BigFanBoy.com had a chance to sit down with Bobby Roe (star and director), Zack Andrews (producer and actor), Brandy Schaefer (actress) and Mikey Roe (actor) and chat a bit about the film and their journey making it. This is one of those “local boys make good” stories, and I’m happy to say the film is really cool too.…

Video Interview…’ABCs of Death 2′ Directors – E.L. Katz, Alejandro Brugues, Jim Hosking & The Soska Sisters

    2014/10/06

While at Fantastic Fest, we got to do several interviews, including a few with the talented directors who helped bring ABCs of Death 2 to life… er, death? A vast improvement over the first ABCs film (check out our capsule review here), it will fright and delight fans of just about every genre. Before we get started, we want to offer our apologies for the extremely bad lighting here – the rooms they used for interviews weren’t lit at all, unfortunately. This was done in the newly refurbished Highball bar, inside the karaoke rooms at the Alamo Drafthouse, which explains the lack of bright light. Up first is E.L. Katz,…

    2014/08/22

The last time we spoke with film and TV composer Carl Thiel he had just finished up scoring the music to Machete Kills. The music was as much fun as the insane action on screen. Now here we are, less than a year later and Thiel has not only contributed music to another Robert Rodriguez film but also the themes for the TV series based on Rodriguez’ From Dusk Till Dawn. No stranger to tight time frames and working hard, Carl Thiel continues to add that gritty and hard-edged sound to each and every world Rodriguez puts on screen.
