Happy Thursday to all you film score fans! And it’s always “happy” when we’re able to share new music on our site. Our friends at Lakeshore Records have let us debut something special from one of the most exciting young voices in the film score game.
Jung Jaeil came on the scene in a BIG way with his music to Parasite. The film has a cornucopia of themes that include (but are not limited to) class struggle, social inequality, and capitalism. Further, it’s explored using and blending elements from different genres like thriller, comedy, mystery and horror. It’s tough for some films to do any one of those well, but Bong Joon-Ho handled it all with such care that it became one of the finest films to hit theaters in the last ten years. The same can also be said for the outstanding music which is just as textured as any of the characters.
The jazz pianist-turned-film composer is able to craft music that thrives in narratives with complex or dark content. Sometimes it’s both, and that’s when he really shines. As such, Jaeil continues to offer that same level of nuance and intricacy with his score to Twinless. We are thrilled to be able to share this “Main Theme” with you below…
As you might be able to notice by listening to the theme, the Emmy-nominated composer utilizes strings, synths and piano to create a score that is gently melodic yet mournful. It also subtly pulses with an underlying tension. The South Korean composer, music director, and multi-instrumentalist has been recognized for his genre-crossing film scores and work across cinema, theater, and orchestral projects. He notes that Twinless is:
“An astonishing film that captures the sorrow of loss, the longing for love, and the desperate lies we tell to keep going – all with raw honesty.”
That’s really fitting as all his efforts have a notable rawness to them. So if you’re looking to add some amazing music to your library, you’re in luck. Lakeshore Records is set to release the 15 track album, Twinless—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, digitally on September 19. Click this link to purchase/stream it: https://lnk.to/twinless
In Twinless, two young men meet in a twin support group and form an unlikely friendship. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) and Dennis (James Sweeney) both search for solace and an identity without their other halves and soon become inseparable outside the group. But when Roman meets Dennis’ ebullient co-worker, Marcie (Aisling Franciosi), all is revealed to be not what it seems, as each man harbors secrets that could unravel everything.
Twinless is released by Roadside Attractions. The film is written and directed by James Sweeney and also stars Dylan O’Brien. It was released on September 5, and is currently in theaters.
