Exclusive First Listen: Michael Abels and Robert Wallace’s Bring Suburban Normalcy and Creeping Paranoia To ‘The ‘Burbs’

Today, we’re thrilled, delighted and super excited to exclusively premiere the main title track taken from The’ Burbs—Original Series Soundtrack with an original score by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Abels (Get Out, Nope), and composer Robert Wallace (The Acolyte). Abels’ and Wallace’s lively score is both mischievous in accentuating the comic moments, and joltingly sinister when the tone of the series turns dark.

Peacock will debut all eight episodes of their Original Series on Sunday, February 8 and Lakeshore Records is set to release The’ Burbs—Original Series Soundtrack digitally on February 6.

Sometimes you just have a feeling that something is going to be good. Call it a sixth sense, but I think it’s an intuition you get from actually living in the suburbs. So, you could say that we know that they know that we know that they know this will be a hit…or something like that. Maybe I got heat stroke working in the yard all day.

Anyway, ahead of the show premiere and album drop, you can check out this First Listen of “The ‘Burbs Main Title” below.

The ‘Burbs follows a young couple who have reluctantly relocated to the husband’s childhood home. Their world is upended when a new neighbor moves in across the street, bringing old secrets of the cul-de-sac to light, and new deadly threats shatter the illusion of their quiet little neighborhood. When asked about lending a hand to help shape this remake of the horror-comedy classic, Abels and Wallace note:

“With The ‘Burbs, we set out to playfully blends modern suburban normalcy and creeping paranoia using sly, suspenseful themes to portray a quiet neighborhood taking on nightmarish overtones when suspicion takes hold. Lighthearted rhythms and exaggerated flourishes underline the series’ dark comedy, making everyday actions feel absurdly dramatic. Moments of eerie tension remind the viewer that beneath the humor lies an emerging mystery — possibly a dangerous one.”

It’s not often we get to dip back to the world ofJoe Dante (even Dante adjacent in a TV show no less). But as television allows for more nuance and a prolonged narrative arc, we’re looking forward to this one. And if you want tension, mystery and suspense ratcheted up to 11, then Abels and Wallace can deliver that and more. Looking forward to how much of that classic Goldsmith sound is referenced in this show. Red rover, red rover, let Rob and Mike come on over!
