Sometimes, a film can hook you from the very first frame, and you just know you’re gonna love the ride. As a film fan, that’s the best you can hope for. Beyond that, if something has high replay value and staying power, it means that particular film it’s on its way too greatness or, at least, cult status. One such feature that meets all of the above and more is Bad Haircut, and having its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest is a badge of honor.
Everything in this 110 minute runtime is primed for maximum enjoyment from this fervent and genre-loving crowd. All the elements we love are there (check out our review if you haven’t), and the only thing better than watching the adventures of Billy, Mick, and company is talking to the people who made this charming film.
We got to sit, at length, with writer/director Kyle Misak and producer Jon Petro to talk about everything that went into this all-out fun fest. The two have excellent taste in film and grew up loving the greats – chief among them is Steven Spielberg. And while this has an independent feel to it, it exudes a kind of ambition that you can imagine their cinematic heroes had when they were young.
We took a deep dive into topics like casting, maintaining vision and integrity taking this from a script to screen, as well as some unexpected surprises on set. The behind the scene efforts (like a cast retreat and all the ad-libbing) really made this gel. It sings on screen and I’d go so far as to call it a triumph. So sit back, relax, and grab a taco while we kick-start this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience. See you in Austin, fellas!
