In the upcoming film Maleficent The Walt Disney company is turning back the pages in their catalog to cast some light on one of their most popular, and apparently unexplored characters. Seemingly cast to perfection with Angelina Jolie this new film tells yet another untold tale of how an evil character came to be so, well, evil. Now it looks all kinds of pretty, chock full of that Disney-stylized whimsical magic, and it has an alluring factor that may or may not be completely attributed to a nostalgic factor (compounded by the shot-for-shot comparison scenes from the classic animated film) but we’ve been fooled before. Have a peek at the glitzy and magical looking trailer for Disney’s Maleficent…
Maleficent is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty. The film, directed by Robert Stromberg, reveals the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora. Disney’s hasn’t had much critical success in the live-action game as of late. If you recall, Oz the Great and Powerful and Lone Ranger were two of the most groan inducing and frankly boring times at the cinema in 2013. This too may be another unnecessary origin story or dip into the vault for the Mouse House. Here’s hoping we’re wrong. The film also stars Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Imelda Staunton and Juno Temple. and Disney plans to bring Maleficent to theaters this Spring on May 30, 2014.
