Interview…Blitz//Berlin on Forging Friendships, Unique Sounds, and Genre Titles Hitting Theaters This Year

Blitz//Berlin is a group of three Juno Award winning film composers. The trio is best known for a variety of projects that border on strange an unusual, but their sound is so fitting for the likes of Jordan Peele’s “Scare Tactics”, “Blade Runner 2036”, “The Void”, and “Psycho Goreman”. They have numerous other films, television shows, video games, and film trailers to their credit…in fact, you might not even know they worked on some of your favorite things.

Members Martin Macphail, Dean Rode and Tristan Tarr first met in high school, forming a Canadian punk band before beginning their film composing careers and relocating to Los Angeles in 2018. They ventured into the film scoring realm in a big way, and their entry point is as unorthodox as their sound. While there’s no right way to make music – every artist needs to find what works for them – the collective forces of Tristan, Dean, and Martin are an inspiration. Their all-go, no-quit, eh? attitude has helped them build a reputation as prolific and captivating composers who craft their special sauce for all sorts of projects.

This year, we will be treated to a trio of genre flicks getting a wide release this Fall. We saw Tina Romero’s Queens of the Dead a few months ago and the remakes of Deathstalker and Silent Night, Deadly Night (from Steven Kostanski and Mike P. Nelson respectively) were at Fantastic Fest last month -they certainly get our seal of approval. We can’t wait for wider audiences to experience and enjoy them. Trailers below for your enjoyment!

The group’s musical prose, ingenuity, and DIY bravado has allowed them to grab hold of our eardrums in ways we didn’t know we needed. And that’s saying something since it’s not exactly easy to make a real noise in the music business these days. One thing is for sure: you never can tell what bounty awaits the bold and determined especially when you have precious little time and material to go off. And these guys hit home runs holding nothing more than a toothpick.

Our co-host for this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience is our very good friend, Bryan Kluger of Boomstick Comics and My Bloody Podcast. He adds to the fun with some superbly penned questions. Thanks, good buddy. So sit back, relax, and prepare to laugh as we throw up sonic high-fives to Martin and Dean (sorry, Tristan!) and celebrate the work of Blitz//Berlin!!

You can get plenty of info on the band at their official website, and for more up-to-the-minute happenings, see what’s happening with them on Instagram and X. Follow them, friend them, love them…they’re alright kinda guys!
