Interview…Chrylo on Future Funk, Upbeat Grooves, and Wicked Mecha

When we find a Bandcamp artist we like, we lock on like a high-velocity missile and seek to get them on our podcast as quickly as possible. That brings us to our guest today. It was 100% fun times chatting with future funk dynamo Chrylo. The UK may be known for its foggy days and dreary weather, but if you throw some headphones on and queue up this awesome artist’s catalog, you’ll redline your fun meter. His beats just explode out of your headphones!!

A digital soundscape artisan, he also designs his album covers which is vastly impressive. The detail and the era he sets them in (late ’90s/early ’00s) calls us right back to the golden PS1 days. He’s a renaissance man a quarter of a century removed from Y2K. We had fun talking about styles, substance, silliness as well as the projects he has on his plate.

The topic du jour was his jaw-dropping PILOT album. It’s sensational either in MP3 form or the gorgeous vinyl edition. In fact, it’s so nice that Chrylo has it framed; it hangs ever elegantly on a wall of his sonic fortress. Beyond that, there is another track, hot off the press, titled REVOLUTION//65 which dropped on April 2. It’s a wondrous composition that feels like you’ve been plunked in the middle of some frenetic polygon era fever dream moving at warp speed with turbo boosters, photon torpedoes and a cheering crowd. All that’s missing is a controller to keep pace with the action. Wow!

And for more sonically sick & saccharine beats, check this out…it’s one of the best on his album (after the stunning title track “Atlas”). You’ll love his sound if you love Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, Future Funk and some ultra high energy beats. Enjoy!!

Be sure to take a listen to Chrylo’s catalog on Bandcamp, and we’re sure you’ll find a few new favorite earworms. Good luck, pilot!
