Interview…Composer Benoît Charest on ‘Where Rabbits Come From’ and Living the Dream

Writer/director Colin Ludvic Racicot’s animated story immerses viewers in a dystopian world, weaving a heartfelt tale of oppression and the unbreakable bond between a father and daughter. Where Rabbits Come From features stunning animation and a captivating score, as it follows the widowed rabbit seeking to reignite wonder and magic in his daughter’s life after the mysterious disappearance of her mother.

Drawing inspiration from Racicot’s personal journey through fatherhood, this heartwarming film has captivated audiences of all ages during its international film festival tour. The Canadian director and writer has crafted tender and imaginative work that united some of the animation world’s most iconic talents. Animation legend Sylvain Chomet and acclaimed composer Benoit Charest – the creative masterminds behind the beloved Les Triplettes de Belleville – joined forces with a gifted animator from Studio Ghibli.

To add a layer of emotion to the dialog-free short, the acclaimed composer brought moments of hope and freedom through the dystopian narrative quilt by blending somber, melodic tones that elevate the audience on a deeply emotional journey. You can watch it here. We had a really fun and informative chat with Charest, so sit back, and enjoy this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!

Imaginative, clever and touching, WHERE RABBITS COME FROM reveals itself to have a clever premise as it unfurls, one that is charming at first glance but also plays an important role in the rabbits’ adventures. It also makes the case for wonder, magic and joy as powerful weapons, ones needed against a bleak world determined to stamp out freedom and possibility in the name of control and domination.
