Emmy-award winning Frederik Wiedmann is one of the most diverse and cultivated composers working in motion pictures today. With over 140 titles to his name in all realms and genres, Wiedmann has established himself as insightful artist with an enduring passion for storytelling.
Wiedmann has been inspired by film composition since he first heard John Barry’s score to Dances With Wolves at the age of 12. Wiedmann is the composer behind the hit Disney Junior show Miles from Tomorrowland, as well as the critically acclaimed Netflix animated fantasy series The Dragon Prince, which is from the writers of the popular series Avatar: The Last Airbender. He’s also written music to films starring Al Pacino, Karl Urban and other A-listers and a trio of flicks directed by Paul Schrader.
But our interview today focuses on the work which really speaks to us: Wiedmann’s multiple projects within the DC cinematic universe. He’s done standout work for Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Beyond that, his success on the series led to further popular Warner Bros’ animated DC projects where he’s written exceptional music for Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Son of Batman, Death of Superman, Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight among others.
Freddy, much like Kal-El, is pretty down to Earth. He’s found success working as an assistant to multiple composers and is always willing to help out young and interested musical talents. The most important thing he relays to them is that “with great power“…sorry, wrong universe. Freddy’s first piece of guidance is even simpler: “you really have to want it.“
To remain committed to this task and this profession, you have to be willing to give it your all to work your way up through the ranks with all these other people who are already successful. Its tough, but he has no doubt that with enough determination, you’ll get to somewhere you’ll enjoy in the future.
And, he’s living proof of that. 15 years and a plethora of experiences later, Freddy is thriving on projects for major studios all the while loving the ride. So grab your cape, and join us on this episode of the GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
