If you visit this site somewhat regularly, it should be news to no one that we love music, specifically theme music for film and television. We also love chatting with composers, songsmiths and performers about their work. As such, we had a blast speaking with Dominic Lewis & Hamilton Leithauser who tag-teamed the superb melody and lyrics for the song in the opening credits of Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV+.
This mini-series about misdemeanors, mischief, misdirected hostilities and marital troubles is, even in a fictitious sense, proof that what glitters is not always gold. Nobody’s life is perfect and it’s fair to say you never truly know your neighbors. So, maybe we don’t want to keep up with the Joneses. All in all, the show is great and each episode is kicked off with this wonderful earworm (below) crafted by the above-mentioned sonic dynamos.
If the names Lewis and Leithauser are new to you, let us catch you up:
“Dom” is a spirited composer, a monster at work, his themes lift us when we need a jolt, he puts our emotions on a bullet train, he’s a sonic fall guy, a true king’s man, and so much more. And, fun fact, it’s been almost three years to the day when we last spoke to Dominic about Bullet Train – his energy is still as exciting as his output.
“Ham” has a real soul to his voice; he’s probably lived twelve lifetimes going all the way back to the pharaohs. He’s gone from the urban jungle to Tiny Desk Concerts to clubs the world over and the words he grabs from the ether are spellbinding. I mean, who under 65 years of age can come up with this??
“I wish I’d only had the balls, to bury the hatchet and forgive em all!”
While that’s not from the show, there are some equally clever lyrics he and Don worked on for YF&N that are just as deep. We were thrilled to chat with both of them about their Emmy-nominated song from the intro of Apple TV+’s Your Friends & Neighbors. Pour yourself a nice tall glass of top shelf scotch and enjoy this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience while I go see someone about a watch. Just gotta find that box and papers.
You can follow Dominic and Hamilton on their Instagram pages (here and here) to see what they’re up to next. Catch you next time, fellas!
