It’s great when a story grabs your attention. In the case of Palmdale, Kirk Fox‘s fast-paced detective yarn, things start in a fury and never let off the gas. His novel is sharp, exciting, deep, and will surely win a lot of fans. They say that truth is stranger than fiction, so it might be hard to classify this as fiction, per se. Fox’s highly entertaining novel is a fantastic edition to the Meridia Books lineup. Also, the strength of the characters – powered by their uncommon-yet-relatable family dynamic – make this a story you didn’t know you needed in your life.
And that’s worth noting because it’s written by a comedian/thespian who uses personal inspiration in his work, and once you’ve seen him and/or heard his brand of humor, you’ll want to see him in everything. Further, regarding Fox’s humor, it is highly likely he’ll be your new favorite comedian. One thing that surprised me was just how fantastic a guest he was. We loved stories about his life, his enviably care-free attitude, and an exceptionally positive outlook on, well, everything. Our talk was full of memorable quips and bumper sticker quality wisdom, but it really came down to one thing: not missing an opportunity. If you ever wanted to do something, anything really, Kirk’s advice is simple…START!
For close to an hour we discussed his career, and how he is the perfect embodiment of writing what you know. A former tennis pro, Fox pulled from his own experiences and crafted this delicious “dirtbag noir“ to put people, exchanges, and situations he’s encountered into the brisk 269-page whirlwind.
