Interview…Ultraboss on New Year, New Sounds & New Pursuits

When a musician is firing on all cylinders, it can be a thing of beauty. Time and again, we’ve been in awe of the raw power and supreme control of soloists, bands or even a full orchestra. How they elicit emotion and really move the mercury is attributed to their skill, and in many cases they can become immortal with just a single note. When they’re on, they’re on, and you’ll remember the sound forever.

That brings us to our guest today. With lightning fast fingers, Ultraboss (the moniker for Austria-based PJ D’Atri) is one of the best shredders on the planet. However, his compositions are even more lethal and impactful the slower he goes.

We interviewed him a few years ago to talk about his stellar work on Yachtmaster. That is an incredible album, and this year he dropped an equally captivating bubblegum rock grooves on Slow Motion Rider. It’s jam-packed with Ultraboss flair, but there’s a good number of slower tracks as well as one that is the most personal to him (more on that in the interview below). Basically, it’s all super rad and worth owning for “Stellarossa” alone.

What makes Ultraboss so great is that his sound is more than the sum of its parts. The collaborations yield some truly magnificent tracks, especially “Run to You” (which is the best song of that name since Bryan Adams belted his version out in 1984). PJ may be “the” Ultraboss, but he’s very focused on giving his contributors and collaborators chances to shine. Scan the credits and you’ll see some amazing talent again and again: Till Wild, Sebastian Gampel, Robert Beachgrove, Cody Carpenter, etc.

Outside of the studio, PJ loves horror movies, video games and Bach, and it is the vast array of styles and interests that have been propelling him these last ten years. He loves experimenting, and so much so that he dropped news of an EP coming out with one of the creative musical minds behind Kung Fury.

Coming this Summer will be…dun dun, dun dun dun dun dun, “Robocock” which is about as funny as it sounds, but it will live in that retro synthwave world he inhabits so well. Can’t wait to hear it!! So, until that time, please enjoy this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience.

Ultraboss is distributed by Rosso Corsa on Bandcamp and his music lives on his personal channels like YouTube, Instagram, etc. Check him out asap, and your world will be changed forever! Rock on!!
