As film fans, we are always rooting for an underdog. Whether it’s a movie about sports or academia, anyone who fights and then rises against the odds has our full attention. It’s a very universal story when you gain something rather than being gifted it.
We’ve been running this site for 15+ years, and understand that it takes knocking on a lot of doors to get any traction or attention. I’ve written several editorial posts to talk about how lucky we are (after a lot of work), to bring home some amazing interviews and entertainment opportunities. I would never say that we were a success, but have been happy with the results and times spent. So that brings us to our next guest.
I grew up in New York (about a hour North of the city) and am a product of the Newburgh school system. As fate would have it I reconnected with an old friend and wrestling buddy, Dante Briggins, and if you were to ask somebody ‘what happens when you don’t see or speak to each other for a quarter of a century?’, in his world, a lot happened!
Dante has always been charismatic, outgoing, and a lot of fun (at school, at tournaments, or pretty much anywhere you’d find him) and his attitude really goes a long way. So as you’ll hear in our interview, Dante made opportunities for himself either by chance, or just grit and determination. He went from modeling to acting pretty seamlessly, and now he’s moved behind the camera to focus on writing and directing.

His latest film is a documentary about one of the most iconic rappers in the last 50 years. JT Money has a pretty incredible story about breaking into the rap game, helping define/establish it, and stay there for almost 35 years. He was one of the members of Poison Clan before taking steps toward a solo career. But he’s always kept a close connection with PC (aka Baby Two Live Crew), and their music is as revered in the Miami area as any rapper in the South.
When Dante was approached with the idea of doing this documentary, it seemed almost too perfect. Their attitudes, work ethic, and more aligned as each have proven they are able to push through the BS to do what they want and make themselves happy. If that’s not success, I don’t know what is.
So enjoy this chat with our old friend, and take note. Many times, Dante talks about being present (ABL to be precise: Always Be Learning), be authentic, stay open to opportunities, and don’t let anyone outwork you. Have a listen to this episode of The GoSeeTalk Podcast Experience!
