Jim Caviezel Joins Sly and Schwarzenegger In 'The Tomb'

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are 80s icons and legendary action heroes. Everyone knows that. They battled the box-office back in the day but have recently taken to teaming up in multiplexes. They shared some geek-gasm worthy screen time in The Expendables and will be running and gunning together in its sequel. But information on the upcoming thriller The Tomb will have them teaming together, possibly, against the prison warden (played by Jim Caviezel) as well as many irate inmates. Taking the reigns for this will be Mikael Hafstrom (1408, The Rite).

The Film Stage has info on the project including a great audio clip from Mark Canton who produced 300 and this year’s Immortals. In the film, Stallone plays the architect of a maximum security prison who is wrongfully incarcerated. As he attempts a breakout he reportedly teams up with Schwarzenegger who plays a well-connected felon. Can’t tell if this will be like Felon or Lock Up or The Shawshank Redemption or, oh aren’t all prison movies pretty much the same?

So on to Caviezel. Much like his career defining role in The Passion of the Christ, Caviezel has always given great performances. Even if the film in question didn’t receive that much acclaim (e.g. The Count of Monte Cristo, Frequency) you can’t say he’s never not given his all. So as we wait for more information on the project and the cast to round out, we thought this was worth mentioning. Filming is set to start and The Tomb is being slated for a 2013 release. We’re more than intrigued, how about you??
