Right when Jose Padilha‘s all-star Robocop remake was looking like it was going to be the biggest thing ever, it hit some snags. One of which were some of the director’s ideas that raised some eyebrows. Beyond that, one of the initial hits taken in the pre-production was the loss of Hugh Laurie from the project. But fear not OCP fans, the project has got a new baddie on board and in an odd yet possibly better decision Jose Padilha got a hold of one Michael Keaton.
A personal favorite of Go,See,Talk Keaton has consistently been an unlikely but winning hit for most of his films. From Batman to Beetlejuice to Clean and Sober to Pacific Heights the Scott Free mini-series The Company and recently as Ken in Toy Story 3. Recently Padilha had this to say about casting Mr. Mom:
“It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets. Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place.”
Fingers crossed that once assembled and presented this “puzzle” will be accpted better than the last Verhoeven remake. Directed by Jose Padilha, his remake of Robocop stars Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jennifer Ehle, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Michael K. Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Slated for wide release next Spring on August 9th, 2013.
