Let’s have a round of applause for Elijah Wood. He could have ridden out his Lord of the Rings fame and lived a healthy retired life on the paychecks/royalties from Peter Jackson’s massive adaptions…but he didn’t. Taking post Middle-Earth films like Green Street Hooligans (which is quite good – check it out), horror/thriller flicks like the remake of Maniac, absurd but successful TV projects like Wilfred, risky and against-type films like Grand Piano and Nacho Vigalondo’s Open Windows and this little late night flick are all shaping him to be a fine adult actor. Now the man’s everywhere and you’ll hear no complaints from us.
So whether or not you’re heading to the Sundance Film Festival (where it will be shown as part of their midnight section) you can check out some of the first screenshots and retro era poster (kinda reminds me of Clue, no?) for Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion’s new film below.
In Cooties, a mysterious virus hits a small Illinois town affecting only the prepubescent population, transforming them into violent, feral little monsters. The virus centralizes in the town’s elementary school, and quickly the infected students have the teaching staff under siege, acting out deadly revenge fantasies with an eerie sense of childlike glee. Finally, the teachers band together, led by a hapless substitute who grew up in the town, realizing they must do the unthinkable if they hope to survive.
Elijah Wood, Rainn Wilson, Alison Pill, Jack McBrayer, Nasim Pedrad and Jorge Garcia are directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion and star in this midnight B-movie throwback. Cooties will premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Circle, circle, dot, dot, hope you got your Cootie shot…
