Ohhh, Look…Teaser Posters For Studio Ghibli's Upcoming Features

It’s no secret that we at G-S-T adore the famous animation powerhouse that Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki built. In fact, I should say ジブリさん愛. Anyway if you, like us, can’t get enough from those animation Gods, then we have FANTASTIC news for you. Both Miyazaki-san and Takahata-san are at the helm for the two upcoming features from Studio Ghibli. I thought 2013 was going to be awesome enough and now we get a pair of Ghibli features too?? The only thing that could make this better is if Joe Hisaishi will again be scoring…*gets handed a small post-it note from the producer*…what’s this? *reads with wide eyes* Good news everyone! Hisaishi will be back. Sugoi!!

The following images are the two official teaser posters that are very much in the in the vein of the drawing styles of both Miyazaki and Takahata. The first is titled The Wind Rises and the one below it is called The Tale of Princess Kaguya.

Apparently, The Wind Rises is about Jirō Horikoshi, the designer of Japan’s famous Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane. But since a Zero is an airplane, from WWII, perhaps it won’t be so happy-go-lucky and will tackle some tough issues. Seems more like a Takahata type story. And speaking of Takahata-san, he will direct The Tale of Princess Kaguya which will recount the 10th century Japanese folktale Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter). From the poster above it looks especially reminiscent of his 1999 film My Neighbors the Yamadas.

Now the only drawback to this announcement and these teaser posters is that 2013 is the for the Japanese release. So don’t expect to see these hitting stateside theaters (most likely the dubbed versions) for another year at least. Still nothing wrong with some news about Ghibli is there? Thanks to our friends at First Showing for the tip. Check out the official website for Rises and Kaguya for more info.
