Yesterday the web was a buzz over the casting of Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. While it wasn’t anything that great (I think Hardy is awesome but not impresses with Hathaway) the other comic related bit was this suspicious X-Men photo:
Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Lucas Till (Havok), Zoe Kravitz (Angel Salvadore), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier)
It was quickly confirmed it was fake or rather just a concept photo (take a good look and see the heads/faces are a bit off) thought at first glance it had some merit. Now it seems we have a plethora of official images for this throwback origin film that, in the words of Mr. Layer Cake and Kick Ass himself Matthew Vaughn, is more “Casino Royale than Star Trek“.
The idea of an X-Men film going back to the 60’s is more than an interesting premise, it sounds like a perfect way to take the series since the last 2 films have really derailed the franchise. Here’s hoping Matthew Vaughn (who was originally supposed to be at the helm of X3) can repair the damage done in his absence…at least before Darren Aronofsky gets his crack at with The Wolverine it that is. So as I enticed you with some images, let me make good with photos as advertised:
Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class is set for release this Summer on June 3 2011. What do you think? Will you be there? Anyone ready to give the X-Men series one more chance??

Too funny, I just found out Andy @ Fandango Groovers are posting these yesterday, too. But I didn’t see the last two pics until after I posted mine. I’m excited for this one, and yeah I know I’m the optimistic one as a lot of people seem to be skeptical about it. My only concern is Fox trying to rush Vaughn to get this done. As I said on my post, I’d rather wait a few more months and see this get done right.

Yeah this is nice to look at (aren’t all comic book images that way in the beginning) but I’m going to need a lot more before I’m sold. Like the idea of the origin story and the cast has good actors in the leads but I don’t want to take an opinion right now.

I’ll be honest, I actually really like that muted retro color scheme and costume design. I’m not really in one camp or the other as far as looking forward to this goes but these images inch me more toward “excited” than “apathetic”, or at least “intrigued”.

Kind of like cautiously optimistic right?:P I don’t really have interest in the X-Men anymore so intrigued sounds about right. Well put:)
