Hard to believe that a ludicrous sounding concept like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would have worked as a comic, ever. Yet, after a quarter of a century (wrap your head around that all you children of the ’80s), the green machine is still kicking. In that time we’ve seen multiple cartoon series, four feature films, an incomprehensible amount of merchandise and now, after nearly 30 years, a reboot. Well, you know what they say about the life expectancy of a turtle right? The release of the updated TMNT film comes nearly in tandem with another highly unlikely concept turned feature film as Guardians of the Galaxy (our review) has made an incredible…

Interview…Composer Jeff Russo on ‘Fargo’, Multiple TV Shows and Finding An Identity For Each Project
Grammy and Emmy-nominated musician, Jeff Russo has become a prominent composer, songwriter and arranger in the film and television industry and recently finished composing music for two highly-anticipated television series: FX’s ten-episode limited series, Fargo (starring Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman and Colin Hanks) and Starz’s new original drama Power. Jeff Russo’s history as a guitarist influenced his process of scoring FX’s Fargo, for which he recently received an Emmy-nomination. At the panel Russo said that he looks at the dialogue as the lyrics of a song, and composes the score around what it is the characters are emulating in each scene. Russo’s work can also be heard in various…

My Brother Jack, written and directed by Stephen Dest, revolves around the lives of two brothers as they attempt to cope with a tragedy from their youth that continues to affect their present lives. Video Interview…’Calvary’ Writer/Director John Michael McDonagh
This week we got to speak with writer/director John Michael McDonagh about Fox Searchlight’s Calvary. It’s a fascinating character study and a pensive thriller that plays like a modernized Western. Essentially, as you’ll learn, McDonagh ripped off High Noon, but he does a wonderful job reworking the bones of the classic film to make this compelling story. It’s a complex film that is not only suspenseful, and at times oddly hilarious, but it raises questions about a multitude of universal themes and beliefs not limited to religion alone. Also, don’t be fooled by the header image. He may look like the baddie in any number of Guy Richie movies but…

G-S-T Review…Guardians of the Galaxy
There’s an idea that in order to have a good time at the cinema you need to check your brain. That’s not entirely the case when it comes to James Gunn. The surprise hit of the Summer (well coming from Marvel and Gunn success is probably not a surprise) Guardians of the Galaxy is highly entertaining and works as both a film and a comic book movie; it’s just a great time at the cinema. Some have claimed, mostly because of the marketing department, that this could be the next Star Wars. Even at the time this review is being written, in the midst of the white-hot hype surrounding the…
