[OCFF Interview]…’The Comedy’ Writer/Director Rick Alverson

Contrary to people’s initial perception based on the title, writer/director Rick Alverson’s The Comedy, is actually a thought-provoking dramatic film that examines the life of the over-privileged, white male from the contemporary, desensitized, “entitlement-generation,” perspective. This week, Go,See,Talk sat with Alverson to discuss his groundbreaking film. For those of you unfamiliar with the project, have a look at this promo clip (from when The Comedy was showcased at the Sundance Film Festival) as well as our insightful interview with him… ————————————————————————————————————————– – Rick, taking a look at your films, New Jerusalem, The Builder, and now The Comedy, they all feel like in depth character studies of the main character. Is this how…

    G-S-T Review…Rock of Ages

Full disclosure: I’ve never seen Rock of Ages live on stage. I have no idea if its sprawling, loosely connected storylines intersect in a more satisfying way when played out before a live, active, participating audience. I don’t know if the theater, rather than the multiplex, represents a more comfortable and better-suited environment in which the particulars of musicals can thrive. So, in short, I don’t really know where primary authorship of Rock of Ages‘ film adaptation lies– it’s with either Chris D’Arienzo or Adam Shankman– but I do know a train wreck when I see one because, as that locomotive cliche dictates, I’m unable to look away. That mesmerizing quality represents…

For film fans, it’s quite a sight to behold. Click the image to see the hi-rez version on Vanity Fair that names everyone in the photo from the…

    Sweet Trailer…'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry'

Winner of the Jury Prize from the Sundance Film Festival is this insightful and powerful documentary about China’s most popular and yet controversial artist Ai Weiwei. Making waves at nearly every festival in the circuit (read our own Andrew Crump’s glowing review of it), his story really is one that needs to be heard. The trailer for the “theatrical release” can be found on the Apple website (read: no embed code yet) and it gives you a good idea of Ai Weiwei’s struggles, but to compliment it, we also recommend you can also take a look at the spotlight trailer, with intro and commentary from director Alison Klayman, for the film while it…

[OCFF Interview]…’The Ghastly Love of Johnny X’ Writer/Director Paul Bunnell

Tomorrow evening, the Oak Cliff Film Festival will kick off at the Texas Theatre, and director Paul Bunnell’s 1950’s throwback film, The Ghastly Love of Johnny X, will open the festival. “Johnny X” follows Johnny and his group of fellow, rebel aliens who are banished to earth. This 1950’s drive-in movie era love letter is sure to have something for everyone. Go, See, Talk spoke with Bunnell this week about the making of Johnny X, and where his inspiration for this highly unorthodox rock-a-billy tale came from. For those not familiar with it, check out the trailer below as well as the highlights from our interview… ———————————————————————————————————————————— Paul, this film…

Hugh Laurie Cast In MGM/Sony Remake of 'RoboCop'

TV’s one and only “shock Doc” Hugh Laurie has been officially cast in  and Jose Padilha’s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic RoboCop. Laurie, 53, now free from the enormously successful “House M.D.”, will be playing the villain/super-rich CEO of  Omni Corp. For those who missed out on the paragon of 80’s awesomeness that is Robocop (so awesome in fact that it’s in the Criterion Collection) O.C.P. is the company responsible for the inception of the program that turns Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) into RoboCop. No stranger to controversy and having people just hate him (well it’s a love/hate relationship) Laurie will be upping the ante to bring some true villainy to his role. Ronny Cox was Verhoeven’s go…
