A bit of a foreword for Go, See, Talk! viewers who are unfamiliar with the Criterion Files: I started this series over at A Constant Visual Feast back in February of this year as a way of covering older ground as well as some contemporary territory in cinema by delving into the massive and varied assortment of films gathered together in the much-vaunted Criterion Collection. In each Files entry, I’ll talk about two different Criterion releases– not necessarily connected by anything other than bearing the Criterion seal of approval– speaking to the films themselves and possibly their contexts and positions in film history. Think of it as me doing my…

Off the Netflix Queue…'The Red Violin'
Go,See,Talk is proud to present this Off the Shelf/Netflix Queue entry as the first post from our new contributing writer Jessica. She’ll be making more appearances on the site in the next few months and we’re glad to have her aboard. So enjoy her view and welcome her to G-S-T. I am drawn to films that are capable of introducing an audience to multiple story lines, and then carefully crafting them together so that these seemingly fragmented parts become one whole by the end. So when Netflix suggested The Red Violin, about the life of one mysterious violin and its many owners, I imagined this multi-narrative structure would likely be…

Sweet Trailer…'The Bourne Legacy'
Hot off the press comes this ‘sneak peek’ featuring Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers, M:I 4) taking over the series for Matt Damon. As we’ve seen in the last teaser the spy world is so much larger than we ever imagined. Case in point: the great tagline “there was never just one” is incredibly deep and impacting to say the least. So feast your eyes on this trailer for The Bourne Legacy, which does a great job of showing how this film fits into Damon’s Bourne universe with a side/parallel story from writer/director Tony Gilroy…enjoy! In addition to Renner taking the reins we’ll see the supporting cast of Albert Finney, Joan Allen and Scott Glen return…

Sweet Trailer…'Branded'
…or, at least we think it’s a sweet trailer. This film from directors Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn calls to mind the familiar saying that “what’s old is new again“. This year we’re already seeing it with updates/reboots of films from Batman to Alien, and similarly here comes something that might make John Carpenter proud…or scratch his head. While the trailer seems straight-forward, at least in concept, it does go from engaging to WTF in about 8 seconds. Like a bizarre mix of They Live and anything David Cronenberg, this sci-fi mindscrew might just keep your interest. Have a look… Branded is both written and directed by Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn and stars Jeffrey Tambor, Max von Sydow, Leelee Sobieski, and Ed Stoppard.…

Ohhh, Look…'Wreck-It Ralph' Character Images
This goes out to all you Pixar fans and 8-bit junkies. In case you haven’t heard, the gang at Pixar has come up with a pretty awesome sounding idea for a film called Wreck -It Ralph. Disney announced this project last August at the D23 Expo along with a string of titles. Most of those mentioned have already hit theaters but this has been one that we at G-S-T have been the most excited about. In the film, the main character Ralph decides he no longer wants to be the “bad guy”, and ventures into other games in hopes of becoming a “hero”. See? Told you it sounded awesome! While many film fans…

Off the Shelf…’Saints and Soldiers’
It’s probably safe to assume that everyone in some way is fond of stories of WWII, and has at least one great film in their video library. Patton and Saving Private Ryan are usual suspects but once in a while there comes a lesser known story of war-time heroism that few know exist. Saints and Soldiers probably doesn’t ring any bells for a good number of film fans, but really it deserves more attention that it gets. A very underrated but stellar WWII movie it was made with very little money but looks as if it had a huge budget. It’s not quite Saving Private Ryan in terms of scale, but has moments of…

G-S-T Quick 5 – Favorite Films For Memorial Day
We at G-S-T hope this three day weekend has found you well and wanted to wish everyone a happy Memorial Day. Today is the day America traditionally remembers the fallen heroes that helped pave the road to the freedoms we enjoy everyday. Different from Veteran’s Day (that celebrates veterans both living and deceased) Memorial Day was originally known as “Decoration Day” – the day dedicated to the Civil War dead, when mourners would decorate grave sites as a remembrance. As I’m not big on history I’ll cut to the chase. This list isn’t really about war or an attempt to rank the finest and true to life battle films I’ve decided to…
