Mondo is the premiere vinyl soundtrack record label and destination for all sorts of palette-expanding music. Pretty sure that no matter what your appetite is, they’ve got something to whet (and satisfy) it. Case in point. How many times have you asked yourself, “why aren’t there more blaxploitation revival albums out there?” The short answer is that there are. And thanks to these purveyors of acoustic awesomeness, you can easily get your hands on it. Luckily, they didn’t have to dig through obscure catalogs to unearth this glorious title; you can thank Eddie Murphy and Netflix for giving the gift of Dolemite Is My Name to the world just last year. A pet project…

Off the Netflix Queue…’Extraction’
In Extraction, Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a black market mercenary who is fearless but only because he’s at the end of his rope. He’s solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But it’s not so cut and dry. A rival kingpin in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers is making things ever more difficult for Rake and the boy (played by Rudhraksh Jaiswal). Sam Hargrave‘s first feature-length film (after working as stunt coordinator and second unit director for many of the most recent Marvel movies) is what action-junkies live for. If you want something hard-hitting, then this will deliver. For close to two solid…

Interview…Justin Kurzel on the Madness and Magnificence of ‘True History of the Kelly Gang’
One of the most remarkable films to be released this year is, without a doubt, True History of the Kelly Gang. Directed by Aussie filmmaker Justin Kurzel, and adapted from the book by Peter Carey, the film is an acting tour de force. Full stop. It’s also an amazing piece of filmmaking. Much like the film’s protagonist, anti-hero, outlaw, Kurzel makes his own rules. From the first frame everything about the production is bespoke. We liked the film quite a bit because it’s different, but you do need to get through it all to really appreciate it. It’s very Kubrickian in that there is nothing conventional about the story/characters, cinematography,…

Interview…Jonathan & Josh Baker on Growing Up Down Under and Adventures in Filmmaking
Hey everyone! Hope each of you are safe, sound, and enjoying this global pandemic. What a time to be living in, huh? While there are several things you could do to keep your spirits up in this time of a global crisis (reading, knitting, amateur cage fighting), we have one entertaining suggestion: listen to a 90-minute conversation with Australian-born filmmakers Jonathan & Josh Baker. When it comes to cinema, these guys know their stuff! We’ve gotten to know the duo over the years, and have tried to help spread the word of their film, Kin, whenever and however we can. Seriously, check it out. The two joined us on a…

Interview…Le Matos on Outrun, RKSS, and Mondo/Death Waltz Vinyl Releases
Last month, we had the great pleasure to speak with a team of composers we’ve admired for some time. Hailing from Montreal, Le Matos has found their way into the hearts of ‘80s fans around the globe with their energetic sound – one that is as catchy as it is perfect for the films to which the music is attached. From their debut album Join Us to the scores to Turbo Kid and Summer of 84, they continue to improve and expand their audio palette. If that wasn’t awesome enough, they’ve won tons of acclaim and scores of fans with their theme remixes from genre classics like Akira, Blade Runner…

Sweet Trailer…’Fisherman’s Friends’
Sometimes we all need to get away. In the latest from Samuel Goldwyn Films comes a delightful little comedy about enjoying the little things. And when are we not going to highlight anything with James Purefoy? Anyway, this is the kind of small film that we think will have a big impact, similar to hilarious and heartfelt efforts like Sing Street, The Grand Seduction, and The Young Offenders to name a few. It’s a fish out of water story that teaches us to reevaluate and ultimately question what success really means. Enjoy! Ten fisherman from Cornwall are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut…

Sweet Trailer…Wes Anderson’s ‘The French Dispatch’
Can you believe that this year we’ll get to see Wes Anderson’s 10th film? Better yet, can you imagine a world without Wes Anderson? It’s tough to do even if some people *cough, Honest Trailers, cough* think his movies are all the same. True, he has his style, and that’s what makes him, for close to three decades, one of the finest auteurs working today. I for one thought there would be nowhere to go after The Grand Budapest Hotel to say nothing of the stunning attention to detail in Isle of Dogs. Yet here we are. So please enjoy this first look at The French Dispatch as well as…
