Fan boys the world over (and film fans in general) are having trouble accepting Jose Padilha’s upcoming RoboCop remake. As we’ve seen many stories we cinephiles hold dear suffer a disastrous facelift (I’m looking at you Total Recall) it’s only a matter of time before everything gets remade and sorry Verhoeven fans, this too is coming whether we want it or not. Now trying to keep an open mind here, there are some decent bits to this production (like the supporting cast) but still not a whole lot points to any reason why this needed to be remade. Anyway here is the International trailer for Robocop which takes a look at the more human side of officer turned cybernetic law man Alex Murphy.
In 2028 Detroit, when Alex Murphy – a loving husband, father and good cop – is critically injured in the line of duty, the multinational conglomerate OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. Written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) and directed by Jose Padilha the film stars Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton and Sony Pictures has slated Robocop for wide release next year on February 7th, 2014.
