In the 31 years since Since John McTiernan and Ah-nuld kicked-off the Predator universe, the series has had some severely diminishing returns. Usually the more you see of something, the less impact is has. And weak story has a lot to do with it. As such, the Predator brand needs a real good jump start that is both fresh, exciting, and free of well-worn gimmicks. So while the news of re-shoots, a pushed back release date, and a ho-hum first trailer haven’t done much to get people excited, we’re hopeful. Why? The fact that Shane Black is attached to this sequel (of sorts) has us excited. After all, there isn’t anything he’s done that hasn’t won us over. Recently, he’s had a trio of hits: The Nice Guys, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Iron Man 3. That’s right, Iron. Man. 3. See? Betting on Black always pays off.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The Predator is directed by Shane Black and stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane and Jake Busey. The film is set for release on September 14, 2018.
