Sweet Trailer…’A Monster Calls’

A Monster Calls HeaderOk, world. If you haven’t seen the trailer for A Monster Calls, stop what you’re doing right now and check this out! The video that follows is a stellar, stunning, and highly intriguing film starring Liam Neeson…don’t worry, he’s not rescuing his daughter in this one. Not even close. This film, from J.A. Bayona (The Impossible), looks so good you’ll wish this was playing in theaters starting tomorrow.

But let’s clear this up right now. This is not The BFG, this is not Groot, it’s not even The Iron Giant, or even everyone’s favorite Ent, Treebeard. This highly original film (that takes place in the young boy’s head, obviously) features high caliber talent, a touching storyline, and is hopefully powered by M83 in the film and not just the trailer. All in all, this looks to be a definitive and exceptional coming-of-age film – one that has classic written all over it. At the very least, it will be visually striking. But you should still grab some tissues before leaving the house; Bayona can really get the waterworks going. Enjoy!!

A visually spectacular drama from director J.A. Bayona (“The Impossible”). 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall), dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates, finds a most unlikely ally when a Monster appears at his bedroom window. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth. Toby Kebbell plays Conor’s father, and Liam Neeson stars in performance-capture and voiceover as the nocturnally visiting Monster of the title.

Directed by J.A. Bayona, A Monster Calls is slated for release this Fall on October 21, 2016.
